O'Neill recorded a career-high 15 points in the 2009–10 season, playing with the Lake Erie Monsters of the AHL. Wes became the Monsters' franchise leader in games played last season with 159, and appeared in a further two games for the Avalanche in a brief stint in January. He is expected to begin the upcoming season back in the minors, and provide the Avs some callup depth in case some of their regular blueliners get bitten by the injury bug.
