This player will have no fantasy value in 2013-14 and can be ignored in all formats.
Acquired by the Islanders via trade last season, Riendeau does have some offensive potential but that didn't translate much into production at the AHL level, a level he is ticketed to stay at this season.
A scoring ace as a junior player, Riendeau needs to polish his skating ability in order to make an impact at the NHL level.
Riendeau was a prolific scorer in the QMJHL, but it he will need to work on his skating to make an impact in the NHL, especially given his lack of ideal size.
The 5-foot-11, 178-pound Riendeau led the QMJHL (playing for Drummondville) this past season with 58 goals and 68 assists. B's assistant GM Jim Benning compared Riendeau to Detroit's Jiri Hudler, but it sounds like the 20-year-old -- likely bound for AHL Providence -- will need to work on his skating to make an impact in the NHL.
