Past Fantasy Outlooks
The 28-year-old journeyman endeared himself to the Vancouver crowd with his physical presence and scored four goals and nine points in 27 games last season, but Archibald's ability limits him to the AHL. If the Canucks need some jam they'll call him up for a bottom-six role, but Archibald will likely spend most of the season in the minor league. Archibald was looking for a one-way contract as a free agent during the summer but found no takers, eventually re-signing on a one-year, two-way deal.
Archibald appeared in 16 games for the Canucks last season, recording a goal and two assists. He spent the majority of the season with AHL Utica, recording 10 goals and 22 points in 59 games. The former OHL 25-goal scorer is a hard worker who could work his way onto the Canucks’ roster this upcoming campaign. However, his fantasy value is limited.
Archibald made the leap from Juniors to the AHL last season, appearing in 20 games for the Chicago Wolves. He finished with just one goal in his stint with the Wolves but showed enough scoring potential during his stops in the OHL and ECHL to warrant some consideration in deep keeper leagues. That said, the 22-year-old winger will have to show he can be productive in the AHL before getting a legit look from the Canucks.
Archibald is a big (6-foot-3, 210-pound) power forward with the offensive skills to eventually land in the top-6 on an NHL attack if he develops as expected. But at just 21 years of age, and without any AHL experience, he will likely spend some time in the minors before getting a look with the Canucks. He has been a steady point-per-game player at the OHL level the past three seasons, making him worth keeping on your radar in deep keeper leagues.
