The Canadiens announced they have signed Berger, 20, to a three-year contract, the Montreal Gazette reports.
ANALYSIS
Berger was a free agent, who played this past season in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) for the Oshawa Generals. In 65 games, the winger registered 52 points (29 goals and 23 assists) with 14 goals on the power play, and was a plus-19. At 6-4, 205, Berger has some size to go with his offensive skills.

Berger lasted just nine games with the AHL Hamilton Bulldogs last season before Montreal demoted him to the Wheeling Nailers of the ECHL. But he never reported to Wheeling, and instead was allowed to return to his native Switzerland to skate for SC Bern in the Swiss A League. His time in the AHL was disappointing after the Canadiens signed him to a three-year deal. He posted 85 points in 109 games over two seasons for Oshawa in the Ontario Hockey League prior to joining the Montreal organization, but never came close to that production with Hamilton. He's way off the Canadiens radar at this point.
Berger was signed as a free-agent out of the Ontario Hockey Leauge where he played the last two seasons for the Oshawa Generals. He's developed a nice scoring touch with the Generals and brings with him a power forward's body that's he not afraid to use. He'll need more seasoning, so look for him to open the year in the AHL at Hamilton.
