Owuya was sent to the Toronto Marlies on Thursday.
ANALYSIS
It was expected he would be sent straight to the ECHL, not the AHL, so this is a bit of boost for the young, rapping netminder. He may still take another step down but he was solid enough in Leafs' camp this season to earn some time in the A.

Swedish rapper first, pro goalie second. Mark In Da Park -- we're not kidding; that's his rap name -- delivered a strong first pro season in North America. He spent most of his time in the ECHL, but played well during his AHL call-up with the Marlies. He's still raw and relatively unrefined, so he'll need a few more years of development before he gets a regular gig in the NHL.
Owuya's butterfly could very well be one of the ugliest you've ever seen. But then again, his numbers don't lie. The 21-year-old posted a 2.18 goals-against average and a league-best .927 save percentage with Djurgarden of the Swedish Elite League this past season. He signed with Toronto for one reason and one reason alone -- netminding guru Francois Allaire. And Allaire has been known to mold ugly ducklings into less ugly but effective blocking Conn Smythe "swans." Owuya's transformation could take years.
