Yet another prospect that made the trek from ECHL Greenville to AHL Hartford, Nichols got his feet wet in his first pro season, getting blanked in six games with the Wolf Pack last year. Amongst other Rangers prospects to make the jump to the AHL, Nicholls managed a solid near-point-per-game pace (42 points in 63 games) and put up a solid 15 points and 14 penalty minutes in 18 post-season appearances with Greenville. While the Maple Leafs former seventh-round pick (2010) is earning his stripes as a solid two-way player and has an offensive upside, there's nothing to suggest he's anything more than a third- or fourth-line forward at the height of his career.
After having another great season (47 goals, 38 assists, 43 PIM and plus-19 rating) with Saskatoon of the WHL, Nicholls signed an entry-level contract with the Rangers. The 6'2, 186-pound right-winger has a ton of offensive upside, but has yet to prove it at the ECHL or even AHL levels, making him a long-term prospect, only applicable for keeper league owners.
