The Predators have signed Vainonen to a three-year, entry-level contract, according to the team's
official website.
ANALYSIS
The 19-year-old Vainonen spent his first season with the Kingston Frontenacs in 2012-13 after being selected sixth overall in the 2012 CHL Import Draft. He ranked fourth among Kingston blueliners in points this season (4G, 18A) and tied for the team lead in points during the 2013 postseason (2G, 1A). Vainonen has the size (6-2, 222) to be an effective physical blueliner in the NHL. However, the Preds are fairly well-stocked on the back end currently, so it remains to be seen how soon Vainonen will see any action with the big club.
