Cave was placed in a medically induced coma after undergoing emergency surgery Tuesday to remove a colloid cyst that was causing pressure on his brain, an operation that he tragically was unable to recover from. The Battleford, Saskatchewan native was just 25 years old.

Cave split time between Boston and Edmonton in 2018-19, collecting eight points in 53 games with both clubs and adding 18 more in 15 minor-league contests with AHL Providence. The 24-year-old spent some time in Edmonton's top six following the trade from the Bruins, but Cave figures to plummet down the Oilers depth chart in 2019-20. Outside of winding up on a line alongside Connor McDavid and/or Leon Draisaitl, Cave offers little-to-no fantasy value and should be left on the waiver wire to start the 2019-20 campaign.
Now 23 years old, Cave recorded 11 goals and 33 points in 72 games with AHL Providence during the 2017-18 season. He also appeared in three games with the big club, recording zero points and two PIM in that span. The 6-foot-1, 200-pounder figures to spend the bulk of the 2018-19 season with Providence, but Cave is at least a candidate to see occasional bottom-six duty in Boston when injuries hit the NHL squad up front.
