Popugaev announced his retirement from professional hockey Monday, Corey Masisak of The Athletic reports.

Selected by the Devils in the fourth round of the 2017 NHL Draft, Popugaev never appeared in a game for the Devils, instead spending the bulk of his post-junior career playing in the KHL. The 22-year-old Russian managed just six points in 25 games for a pair of KHL club's last season.
