2018 Fantasy Outlook
After posting career highs in numerous categories, Manning signed a two-year, $4.5 million deal with the Blackhawks, but they reportedly expect the 28-year-old to contribute more defensively and physically than on the scoresheet. That's probably the right assumption since Manning -- even with a career-high 111 shots on goal -- needed a 6.3 shooting percentage, which was nearly 2.5 percent higher than his career norm, to score seven goals. He finished 2017-18 with 19 points, an even rating, 56 PIM and 113 hits in 65 games. Owners should draft Manning for PIM, hits and blocks; if he registers more than five goals and 15 points again, that's a bonus. Read Past Outlooks

Manning was designated for waivers by the Oilers on Monday in order to send him down to the minors.
ANALYSIS
Manning appears to be the odd man out on the blue line in order to create space on the 23-man roster for Andrej Sekera (Achilles). The 28-year-old Manning carries a $2.25 million cap hit, which could dissuade any teams from putting in a claim. If the 28-year-old does clear, he will be reassigned to AHL Bakersfield, where he could spend the remainder of the 2018-19 campaign.

Manning scuffled through a subpar 2016-17 campaign -- 12 points and a minus-12 rating over 65 games -- and then underwent offseason back surgery. Now 27 years old with a resume that's not impressing anyone, he may have a hard time even breaking into the Flyers’ lineup this season, leaving his fantasy value close to nil even in leagues that count his modest contributions in hits and blocked shots.
The 23-year-old Manning had a short stint in the NHL last season, appearing in just six games for the Flyers. He didn't have a stellar year in the AHL, posting 19 points and a minus-six in 46 games, but many consider him to be one of the Flyers' better defensive prospects. Given the team's defensive issues, it's realistic to expect him to see more NHL time this year. Still, even if he stays full-time in the NHL, expect modest fantasy production while adjusts to the stiffer competition.
After solid play in the AHL with Adriondack, Manning was given a chance to play several games with the Flyers as injuries opened spots on the roster; he did not post a point in four NHL contests. He’ll likely fill in again for injured Flyers as needed, but won’t see enough ice time to have a big enough impact in most fantasy leagues.
