Closer Watch - A closer look at intriguing ninth-inning situations (check out Dave Regan's Closer Grid with the link to the left).

Baltimore - After holding opponents scoreless through his first 25 appearances this season, Will Ohman has given up a combined seven runs over his last four outings. Ohman blew his first save opportunity on Sunday; but fortunately for the Orioles, David Hernandez came in and pitched two scoreless innings to help secure the extra-inning win. Ohman is not exactly entrenched as the Orioles' closer, so don't be surprised to see Hernandez, or possibly Frank Mata, get the call next time.

Houston - Matt Lindstrom allowed two hits in the ninth inning on Sunday to put the tying run at the plate, but he got Chicago's Tyler Colvin to ground into a double play to pick up his 13th save of the season. Lindstrom has been a little shaky lately (three BS since May 27), but he has converted his last two save opportunities and still has a firm grip on the closer's job for the time being.

Scott Feldman v. Mariners - In seven career starts against the Mariners, Feldman is 3-1 with a 2.67 ERA and 1.06 WHIP. No player on the Mariners' current roster has ever homered against him, which will be key considering the game is being played in Arlington. Feldman has allowed at least four runs in eight of his last nine starts; but though he has struggled recently, his best start of the season came back on April 11 against the Mariners (7 IP, 1 ER in a win). If Feldman hopes to turn things around, there's not a better time to start than Monday.

Derek Lowe v. Diamondbacks - A quick glance at the 'cold' section below should tell you all you need to know about Lowe against the Diamondbacks. Lowe has allowed just 41 hits in 163 at-bats against the current Diamondbacks roster (.252), and 22 of those have come from Stephen Drew (above) and Mark Reynolds. The Diamondbacks are unlikely to put many runners on base against Lowe, so though he's just 1-4 against Arizona, he'll be in position to win the game as long as he keeps the ball in the park and minimizes the situations with runners in scoring position.

Dan Haren v. Braves - Though Haren is 3-2 against the Braves in his career, he owns a 6.44 ERA and a 1.57 WHIP against them in his career; and in Haren's first start against the Braves this season, he gave up seven runs, six earned, in just 4.1 innings. No one on the Braves' roster has hit Haren at a particularly high clip, but he has given up seven home runs to six batters in just 93 at-bats. Haren was very sharp his last time out (8 IP, 0 ER, 7:0 K:BB), but be aware that he could get knocked around a bit on Monday if he does not have his best stuff.

Edwin Jackson, SP, AZ - When Jackson's ERA stood at 7.43 after his first eight starts this season, some quickly questioned whether or not his performance last season was a fluke. However, a look at his peripherals shows he's striking out almost a batter more per game, inducing a lot more ground balls, and also getting pretty unlucky - his career-low .621 strand rate is much lower than his .716 major league average. Jackson was due for an improvement, and improved he has. After giving up eight home runs in his first eight starts, he has only allowed two over his last four. In that span, Jackson is 2-1 with a 2.27 ERA and a 34:10 K:BB ratio, which has helped lower his ERA over two full runs. Jackson is still available in nearly half of Yahoo! leagues, so snag him up now before the other owners in your league notice the turn around too.
