Recommended Pickup
Jacob Turner, P, DET: Generally, in fantasy baseball it can be much more difficult to find a viable pitching option compared to position players. Picking up Baseball-America's 21s ranked prospect entering 2012 (and a Top-26 prospect three years running) could be a good way to shore your pitching up. This rings especially true when he could potentially earn a full-time spot in a major league rotation soon. Turner was one of the top ranked arms in a 2009 draft class that included Zack Wheeler, Mike Minor, Drew Storen, Aaron Crow, Shelby Miller, Alex White and number one pick Stephen Strasburg, among others. The 21-year-old has pitched very well in three minor league seasons, with a 3.21 minor league ERA. That includes a 3.16 ERA in 10 Triple-A starts in 2012. His strikeout numbers haven't been great, though they should improve as he gets older and continues to develop. Even without major strikeout numbers, Turner entices a lot of ground balls. His arsenal features a 90-93 MPH fastball that can reach 95 on the radar gun along with a changeup and a curveball, both of which have been rated highly by scouts. Turner made a spot start earlier in the season, throwing five innings of one-run ball against the St. Louis Cardinals. With Drew Smyly being placed on the DL, Turner has been called up and will get another chance to impress when he starts for the Tigers on Tuesday. He should be a mainstay in Detroit's rotation soon.

Other Recent Recommendations: Adam Lind, Ben Sheets, Brandon Moss, Lorenzo Cain, Justin Ruggiano
