Closer Watch
Yankees: After both Mariano Rivera and his rehab doctor said earlier this month that they felt the future Hall-of-Famer could return this season, Yankees General Manager Brian Cashman threw some cold water on those rumors. On Tuesday, Cashman said that Rivera would not pitch again in 2012 and called Rivera's rehab doctor, Keith Pyne, unprofessional. Rivera tore his ACL in early May, an injury that typically will keep a player out for 9-12 months.

Recommended Pickup
Travis Snider, OF, TOR: Is Snider finally living up to his potential? Snider, formally Baseball-America's #6 overall prospect prior to 2009, had been destroying the ball in Triple-A this season to the tune of a .335/.423/.598 line with 13 HR and 57 RBI. He was finally re-called to the major league squad on July 20 after the Blue Jays made a ten-player trade with the Houston Astros. Now, it looks like they will allow Snider to show he can be an every day player in left field. He has impressed so far, with a .364 batting average and a home run in his first three games, and he hit a second home run in his first at bat on Tuesday. Snider has always had the ability to hit, but has not yet put it together at the major league level. In parts of four seasons before 2012, he hit just .248/.307/.423 with 28 HR. He can certainly hit for power and could absolutely also contribute with his batting average as well. Perhaps this will finally be the year the 24-year-old Snider breaks out.
