Closer Watch
Red Sox: Andrew Bailey pitched the ninth inning of the Red Sox' win over the Royals on Monday. This continues to fuel speculation that Bailey is poised to take over the full-time closer role. The Red Sox have said that Alfredo Aceves' role in the team's bullpen is to be determined now that he is eligible to return from his suspension. Aceves certainly did not endear himself to anyone after a heated meeting with manager Bobby Valentine following the decision to allow Bailey to receive a save opportunity a few days ago.

Recommended Pickup
David Phelps, P, NYY: With Ivan Nova being placed on the DL, the Yankees have called on Phelps to join the team's starting rotation for the time being. The 25-year-old Phelps is currently in his rookie season after a fantastic, yet largely unheralded minor league career. Phelps started 90 if his 91 minor league appearances over five seasons, posting a 2.51 ERA and 433:115 K/BB ratio.

That success has carried over to the major leagues where Phelps has worked primarily as a reliever. He has pitched in 24 games, five of which were starts, with a 2.69 ERA and 1.147 WHIP in 63.2 innings. In addition, he has brought up his strikeout numbers even further with a 9.3 K/9 this season.

The Braves' Kris Medlen has proven that a great reliever can switch over to starting and pitch just as well. Phelps could certainly follow in Medlen's footsteps. He has yet to fail at any level of competition and, in his five major league starts so far, has just a 2.92 ERA and 9.5 K/9. That's not a great sample size, but it's worth taking a shot on Phelps as he could certainly prove to be better than many other pitchers already owned. With fantasy playoffs either right around the corner or having already begun in many leagues, Phelps might just be able to provide the push you need.

Other Recent Recommendations: Ike Davis, John Mayberry, Pedro Ciriaco, Tyler Skaggs, Wilin Rosario
