Yahoo DFS Hockey: Wednesday Picks

This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Hockey series.

There are four games in the National Hockey League Wednesday, with just the Blues playing their second game in consecutive nights against Chicago.

East visits West in the Pittsburgh-Vancouver and Florida-Anaheim matchups, and the Maple Leafs play host to the rested Jets who have been sitting on a 5-1 loss to the Canadiens since Sunday.

The Maple Leafs are the only team allowing north of three goals per game -- don't view their upset win over the Stars on Monday as a sign of things to come.

GOALIE

Frederik Andersen, ANA vs. FLA ($34) - The backstop finally picked up his first win of the season in 40-save fashion Sunday and now has a .935 save percentage and a 2.05 goals-against average through seven starts. Florida's numbers are still skewed by its seven-goal and six-goal showings, and the Panthers been held in check by the stronger defensive teams in the league. At worst, Andersen is a high-end No. 2 goalie option Wednesday.

Goalie to Avoid:

Brian Elliott, STL at CHI ($30) - Even with the discounted price tag, Elliott cannot be started with any degree of confidence Wednesday. He hasn't started since Oct. 24, and St. Louis lands in a difficult schedule spot, especially with Chicago 6-1 at the United Center.

CENTER

Bryan Little, WPG at TOR ($21) - The pivot has five multi-point showings over his last nine games, and he has two goals and three assists through his two meetings with Toronto in the last two seasons. Toronto allows more than three goals per game this season, and Winnipeg is averaging exactly three, so the game projects nicely for Little.

Center to avoid:

Jared McCann, VAN vs. PIT ($18) - It has been a storybook start for the rookie, but his pace is beyond unsustainable. To start, he only averages 11:03 minutes per game, and his 106.3 PDO and personal 29.4 shooting percentage are due for a crash landing. Pittsburgh is also allowing just 1.82 goals per game this season.

WING

Nikolaj Ehlers, WIN at TOR ($20) - While the price is just, Ehlers still checks out as an excellent building block for DFS lineups. His high-shot volume (43 through 12 games) makes him a safe investment, which cannot be underestimated with just four teams playing Wednesday. Plus, his four goals and five helpers already highlight his upside. Toronto has allowed 3.4 goals per game in their last five contests, too.

Corey Perry, ANA vs. FLA ($19) -
To date, there is nothing to like about Perry's production, but he's priced well below the $22-average salary behind 13 other wingers. He has 23 shots without a goal and sports a 97.0 PDO, which is buoyed by Anaheim's 10th-ranked .920 save percentage. He won't go many more games without a goal or multiple tallies.

Wing to Avoid:

Jaromir Jagr, FLA at ANA ($22) - The veteran missed two games with a lower-body injury but is expected to return Wednesday. It shouldn't be viewed as a favorable matchup, though, and it would be wise to avoid Jagr until he proves his health. He only lasted four shifts in his latest outing, after all.

DEFENSEMEN

Sami Vatanen, ANA vs. FLA ($19) - With a multi-point showing in his latest outing, Vatanen presents nice value quarterbacking the No. 1 power-play unit. Florida is only killing penalties at a 77.3-percent rate, and it's lost consecutive games. Vatanen owns an elite shot and is starting 58.4 percent of his shifts in the offensive zone.

Ian Cole, PIT at VAN ($12) -
The meat-and-potatoes rearguard averages more than 21 minutes per game and has 30 blocked shots through 11 games this season. He has struggled in the plus/minus column and has only registered 11 shots all season. Still, at minimum price, the floor is respectable.

Defenseman to Avoid:

Colton Parayko, STL at CHI ($20) - The fantasy darling of the early season has now gone consecutive games without a point and returned a minus-3 rating and just one shot on goal. With Kevin Shattenkirk (lower body) expected to return Wednesday, Parayko's minutes could suffer, especially with the man advantage. The rookie is too pricey to count on Wednesday.
