Yahoo DFS Hockey: Tuesday Picks

Yahoo DFS Hockey: Tuesday Picks

This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Hockey series.

Twelve games don the National Hockey League schedule Tuesday, and there are plenty of storylines to add excitement.

Milan Lucic returns to Beantown, it is Martin Brodeur night in New Jersey and the divisional showdowns between Dallas and Minnesota, Tampa Bay and Montreal and Winnipeg and St. Louis project to be excellent games.

A fast and physical showdown between the Ducks and Flyers might prove to be must-watch television, too. And how about the Sharks-Blackhawks date and Capitals-Predators tilt?

Saddle up for the games with some daily lineups and enjoy the action Tuesday.

GOALIE

Jonas Hiller, CGY vs. TOR ($35) - Hiller's starts have been few and far between, but he is coming off a 34-save win with just a goal against and draws a plus-matchup Tuesday. The Maple Leafs enter averaging just 2.04 goals per road game and only 1.6 over their past five outings. Additionally, Toronto has a handful of injuries to further dilute the offensive attack.

Goalie to Avoid:

Brian Elliott, STL vs. WPG ($40) - Elliott is scorching hot with an active 7-3-1 run and a .945 save percentage, but life without Alex Pietrangelo (knee) won't be easy. Look for the Blues to survive the injury in the long run, but spending 20 percent of your cap on Elliott is much tougher without the real-world star manning the blue line and playing all the most important defensive minutes. Winnipeg has scored 15 goals in its last four games, too.

CENTER

Jeff Carter, LA at BOS ($17) - Since leaving Philadelphia, Carter has not maintained superstar status because of his frequent slumps. He is reeling through a six-game stretch with just two assists and a minus-4 rating. However, Carter never stays down long and is projected to line up with Tyler Toffoli, and the duo have averaged an impressive 3.31 goals per 60 minutes the last two seasons. This is a prime buy-low opportunity for Carter.

Center to Avoid:

Nazem Kadri, TOR at CGY ($24) - The cap hit is too high. Kadri has three goals, three helpers and a minus-4 rating over his last 12 games with the only saving grace his 49 shots on net. Kadri projects to be tasked with slowing John Gaudreau and Sean Monahan, and the pair of Flames have combined for 60 points through 26 home games.

WING

Nikita Kucherov, TB at MON ($25) - The Canadiens finally won a pair of games over the Oilers and Hurricanes, and Tampa Bay was wiped up by Ottawa in its latest outing. Kucherov has been a one of the most consistent contributors the last three months and has 32 points -- 15 goals -- through his past 26 games with 63 shots on net. The cap hit is still reasonable despite his offensive surge.

Johnny Gaudreau, CGY vs. TOR ($23) -
As mentioned, Gaudreau is as good as there is on home ice, and he has registered 18 goals and eight helpers through 26 games at the Scotiabank Saddledome. Toronto allowed six goals in its last outing and has allowed 2.75 per road game for the season. The cap hit presents huge profit.

Patrick Maroon, ANA at PHI ($12) -
It's rare to find a player at minimum price who has two goals and three assists in his last four games. Maroon has skated with Corey Perry and Rickard Rakell at even strength and received power-play looks recently. Additionally, Maroon has also moonlighted briefly with Perry and Ryan Getzlaf. The style of play should suit the hulking power forward Tuesday, too.

Wing to Avoid:

Gabriel Landeskog, COL vs. VAN ($23) - The salary is steep given Landeskog's recent form. He has been held below 10.0 Yahoo fantasy points in nine of his last 12 games and has just four goals, an assist and 18 shots during the span. Additionally, he hasn't seen enough ice time with Matt Duchene and Nathan MacKinnon. While the matchup isn't tough, there are much high-floor, high-ceiling options at Landeskog's price point.

DEFENSE

John Klingberg, DAL at MIN ($21) - Klingberg is a game removed from a three-game point streak and draws a potentially underrated matchup Tuesday. The Wild have won a single game through their last 11 outings and just three games since the calendar flipped to 2016. The cap hit doesn't break the bank, either, and especially given Klingberg's multi-point upside.

Nick Leddy, NYI at CLS ($16) -
Offensively, Leddy is fine, as he has rattled off 14 points through his past 16 games. The issue is he has also returned a minus-3 rating during the span. The Islanders have owned the Metropolitan Division the last two seasons, though, so expect another strong game from Leddy against the basement-dwelling Blue Jackets Tuesday.

Defenseman to Avoid:

Brent Burns, SJ at CHI ($29) - The blue liner lands in a daunting matchup and carries a hefty cap hit. The Blackhawks have allowed just 1.54 goals per game at the United Center and own a 21-5-1 record with an average of 3.04 goals per game of their own. Burns, the hightest-price defenseman, has been slumping, too. He has just four helpers and a minus-3 rating through his last 10 games.
