Mike Ribeiro and Ben Bishop were worthwhile recommendations last week.
Nail Yakupov, on the other hand, blew his chance in the top six next to Connor McDavid, and similarly, Dmitry Kulikov only returned results in the peripheral categories.
Here are this week's values.
C: Nazem Kadri, Toronto Maple Leafs, $5,400
A contrarian recommendation, Kadri has a respectable nine points through his past 10 games with 29 shots on net. However, with the buzz surrounding William Nylander and Nikita Soshnikov, Kadri could be overlooked, leaving him with low ownership percentages.
The Leafs suit up for back-to-back road games against Ottawa and Detroit before a six-game homestand against Tampa Bay, Florida, Buffalo, Calgary, Anaheim and Boston. It isn't a cakewalk, but teams are consistently playing their backup goalies against them, and Kadri's played a significant role in the Leafs' consecutive three-goal games.
W: Alex Tanguay, Arizona Coyotes, $3,600
With a pair of multi-point games lifting him to the tune of two goals and three helpers through three outings since joining Arizona, Tanguay is fitting in nicely with his new club. He's receiving top-unit time with the man advantage and top-six minutes at even strength.
Arizona has back-to-back road games against Calgary and Edmonton beginning Friday, and a home date against the hit-or-miss Sharks could present a sneaky spot to utilize Tanguay, too. Additionally, Tanguay could have added motivation after being jettisoned from a playoff contender heading into unrestricted free agency.
D: Kris Russell, Dallas Stars, $4,500
Dallas is missing three regulars from its blue line, including John Klingberg, so Russell played 27:45 in his latest outing, including manning the point on the No. 1 power-play unit. Additionally, since joining the Stars, his most frequent teammates up front at five-on-five have been Tyler Seguin and Jamie Benn.
Russell brings a high floor with upside, given his shot blocking prowess (12 through his past three games) and ability to contribute offensively when called upon to climb the depth chart. He has a power-play helper in consecutive games and was excellent last season (14 points through 18 games) when Mark Giordano was out for the Flames.
G: James Reimer, San Jose Sharks, $6,700
His 31-save shutout Tuesday will likely push him into chalky territory, but with 11 more games through the end of March, Reimer is going to see action in potentially favorable matchups.
Don't forget, only Henrik Lundqvist (.942) and Brian Elliott (.941) have better five-on-five save percentages than Reimer (.941) among goalies who've played at least 600 minutes, according to War on Ice. And now that he's in San Jose, the team in front of Reimer is much better, especially the blue line.
