Yahoo DFS Hockey: Sunday Picks

This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Hockey series.

Sunday's two-game slate marks the end of the regular season. All four teams in action have clinched playoff berths, but they'll be looking to enter the postseason on a high note with wins. These top value plays should help their teams, and owners, do just that.

GOALIE

Frederik Andersen, ANH at WAS ($31) - Andersen brings solid stats into the season finale, as he owns a 21-9-7 record and 2.36 GAA. The Danish netminder has been solid when healthy, and that should continue against a Capitals team likely to start backup Philipp Grubauer with the top seed locked up. Considering the lack of alternatives, Andersen at the reasonable price of $31 is tough to pass up.

Goalie to Avoid:

Steve Mason, PHI at NYI ($38) - Mason is by far the most expensive goaltending option playing, and facing the Islanders on the road is no easy task. There are smarter places to spend big.

CENTER

John Tavares, NYI vs. PHI ($33) - Tavares won't come cheap, but he should be worth it considering he's averaging 16.2 fantasy points per game in his last five contests heading into the weekend. Especially with Alex Ovechkin ($30) not putting up huge numbers of late, the Islanders captain is the clear big-money skater choice.

Center to Avoid:

Jamie McGinn, ANH at WAS ($19) - McGinn's production has been sparse lately -- he's averaging just 2.0 fantasy points per game in his last five. Even if you think rolling with him against the first-place Capitals is a good idea, there are much hotter Ducks players available.

WING

Jakob Silfverberg, ANH at WAS ($24) - Silfverberg has caught fire to close the season, posting nine goals and five assists in his last 13 games. He's as hot as any winger available, and the Capitals aren't as fearsome an opponent as usual considering they have dropped three straight with their foot off the gas down the stretch.

Jason Chimera, WAS vs. ANH ($12) - Chimera should be highly motivated Sunday, as he has an opportunity to set a new career high in points and/or hit the 20-goal mark for the second time in his career if he gets on the scoresheet. The veteran knows he's unlikely to reach this level again, so expect him to fight tooth and nail to pick up at least a point.

Wings to Avoid:

Alex Ovechkin, WAS vs. ANH ($30) - Ovechkin has been disappointing by his standards lately, potting only five goals with no assists in his last 11 games. The Capitals captain is likely on cruise control with the top seed locked up, and may be a bit cautious in the season finale to avoid getting dinged up heading into the playoffs. For all these reasons, $30 will likely be a massive overpay for Ovechkin.

Frans Nielsen, NYI vs. PHI ($19) - Nielsen has only 52 points, which puts him below both other $19 options. Go with one of them if you're looking for an option in this price range.

DEFENSE

Shayne Gostisbehere, PHI at NYI ($19) -Gostisbehere has stayed true to form as an offensive force from the blue line, registering three assists in his last four games. The talented rookie will be amped up in his final regular season appearance before his playoff debut, and the Islanders have the most susceptible defense in action besides Gostisbehere's own Flyers. His scoring ability makes the Union College product a terrific high-upside option at the reasonable price of $19.

Andrew MacDonald, PHI at NYI ($14) -MacDonald has stepped up during Philadelphia's playoff push, topping 6.0 fantasy points in three of his last four games. That's solid production for a player of his price, and utilizing McDonald would clear the necessary cap space to get expensive stars in the lineup. He could also be in line for extended playing time if the Flyers choose to take it easy on their more prominent players now that they've clinched a postseason berth.

Defenseman to Avoid:

Hampus Lindholm, ANH at WAS ($20) -Lindholm has gone six games without getting on the scoresheet, and is dealing with an illness on top of that slump. That level of production doesn't justify his place as the third-most expensive defenseman available.
