Yahoo DFS Hockey: Tuesday Picks

Yahoo DFS Hockey: Tuesday Picks

This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Hockey series.

There are three Game 3s on Tuesday with two series deadlocked at a 1-1 tie, and the Sharks the only club capable of taking a 3-0 stranglehold on their series.

The Islanders-Lightning and Stars-Blues games project to be a touch more offensive than the date between the Sharks and Predators, so assemble your lineups accordingly.

Here are your values, picks and pans for the three-game slate Tuesday.

GOALIE

Martin Jones, SJ at NSH ($33): With a 6-1 record, a .923 save percentage and a 2.13 GAA in the playoffs, Jones is doing his job for the Sharks. Additionally, San Jose has only burdened Jones with 15 high-danger scoring chances at even strength through the first two games of the series. This cap hit makes Jones a slam-dunk start, too.

Player to avoid:

Antti Niemi, DAL at STL ($30): With a .891 save percentage through three games during the playoffs, Niemi is a risky start no matter how you slice it. Dating back to the regular season, the Stars have allowed 851 high-danger scoring chances at five-on-five (second most in the league), and Niemi has a .837 save percentage against high-danger scoring chances for the season, including a .650 mark in the playoffs. Be careful relying on Kari Lehtonen if he starts, too.

CENTER

Cody Eakin, DAL at STL ($12): Coming off a three-assist showing, Eakin sits at seven helpers through eight games during the playoffs. For his career, he has two goals and 10 helpers over 14 postseason games, too. Add in his top-line role with Jamie Benn and Patrick Sharp on his flanks, and at minimum price Eakin is a high-end source of cap relief.

Player to avoid:

Mike Ribeiro, NSH vs. SJ ($12): The veteran pivot has a single assist, just seven shots and a minus-3 rating through nine playoff games this season. Don't be fooled into chasing the cap relief Ribeiro boasts because the results haven't been there. His lack of shot volume makes him a low-floor investment, too.

WING

Jaden Schwartz, STL vs. DAL ($25): The gifted winger has more high-danger scoring chances (15) at five-on-five than any other player in the playoffs, and his three power play goals also pace the league. Plus, a bounce-back showing looms, as he is also two outings removed from a six-game point streak.

Joonas Donskoi, SJ at NSH ($14): The rookie is having a breakout playoff run with a pair of goals and assists through seven games, and Donskoi is averaging 14:02 of ice time per night. He also finished the regular season with nine points over his final 15 games. There is excellent upside here at an affordable salary.

Player to avoid:

Patrick Marleau, SJ at NSH ($19): The veteran winger is playing further down the depth chart than in the past and has averaged just 15:50 of ice time during the playoffs. With just a single goal and three helpers through seven games, Marleau's complimentary role now requires him to cash in on his opportunities with the man advantage, and he isn't a top shooting option.

DEFENSE

Victor Hedman, TB vs. NYI ($24): Given his strong play, it was inevitable Hedman's salary would climb. The results are showing up on the scoresheet, as Hedman has a goal and two assists through the first two games of the series with nine shots on net. He also leads the Lightning in ice time with 26:57 per game through the first two games of the series.

Alex Goligoski, DAL at STL ($21): Riding a four-game point streak with three goals, a helper, 11 shots and eight blocked shots. Goligoski is having a nice postseason and owns a career 0.49 points-per-game mark for his career. Don't sleep on the capable fantasy rearguard because he'll likely be sparsely owned Tuesday.

Player to avoid:

Shea Weber, NSH vs. SJ ($25): Weber has returned consecutive 2.0 Yahoo fantasy point showings through the first two games of the series against the Sharks. Paired with defense partner Roman Jose, the duo has the worst Corsi differential at five-on-five for Nashville with a minus-12 mark. Be wary of paying up for Weber on Tuesday.
