DraftKings NHL: Saturday Picks

This article is part of our DraftKings NHL series.

Saturday is the end of Daylight Saving Time. That means we will be rolling back the clock one hour. That's an extra hour to watch late night hockey, or perhaps an extra hour of sleep after spending all day watching Saturday's 13 NHL games. There are a ton of players to choose from. Here are the ones who stick out to us.

GOALIE

Cam Talbot, EDM at NYI ($7,700): The Oilers have lost three games in a row but are 7-3-1 on the season, and they have a plus-7 goal differential to the Islanders' minus-4. Talbot has been good so far, posting a .937 save percentage. He's priced in the middle of the pack as well. Would you rather have Talbot, or the equally priced Mike Condon? That's indicative of the potential steal Talbot is at this price.

CENTER

Jeff Carter, LOS vs. CGY ($5,600): Carter only has two goals, but he's taken 32 shots on net. His shooting percentage is bound to go up, and he has a proven track record. Brian Elliott also has a .889 save percentage for the Flames. Don't be surprised if Carter's shooting percentage begins its ascent in this one.

Eric Staal, MIN at COL ($5,200): Staal is no longer a fantasy darling, but there's still life left in him. He's got eight points and 26 shots on goal, and he's playing 2:46 a night on the power play. The Avalanche are giving up 3.1 goals per game, and Semyon Varlamov has a .891 save percentage. Staal definitely has enough left in the tank to be a good value in a matchup like this.

WING

Johnny Gaudreau, CGY at LOS ($6,300): Gaudreau's price is deflated a bit by a "slow" start. He only has two goals and seven points in 12 games, but his shooting percentage is 6.7, and we're talking about a guy who scored 30 goals as a 22-year-old. Maybe getting to put pucks on Peter Budaj will help. Take advantage of being able to get Gaudreau at a price like this while it's still possible.

Jeff Skinner, CAR at NAS ($6,100): While Pekka Rinne has played fine (.915 save percentage), Nashville is allowing 3.1 goals per game. Skinner, meanwhile, has 11 points and 32 shots on goal, and he's done that despite only playing in eight games. He'd be a reasonable option at this price in almost any matchup. In this particular spot, he feels like a steal.

Craig Smith, NAS vs. CAR ($4,600): It seems like a good idea to get in on the flipside of that Hurricanes-Predators contest as well, considering the fact Carolina has struggled at goal prevention and are likely the only team who still see Cam Ward (.882 save percentage) as a viable NHL netminder. Smith has five goals in nine games on 24 shots, and he's playing 2:17 a night on the power play. For a mere $4,600, he seems like a nice low-cost option to let you spend money elsewhere.

DEFENSE

Drew Doughty, LOS vs. CGY ($5,200): Doughty, like Carter, is a player whose points should come in due time. He only has two goals and two assists, but he's notched 30 shots on goal and is playing almost 28 minutes a night. The opportunities are there. He just needs a little puck luck, and playing the Flames can't hurt on the puck luck front.

Andrei Markov, MON vs. PHI ($4,500): The Canadiens will be on the second night of a back-to-back, but this matchup is too good to avoid. Michal Neuvirth has a 3.31 GAA… and he's got the lower GAA of Philly's two goalies. Markov is no Shea Weber, but Weber will cost you $7,300. For almost three grand less you can get Markov, who has a history of performing well offensively, especially on the power play.
