DraftKings NHL: Sunday Picks

This article is part of our DraftKings NHL series.

The main event contests at DraftKings on Sunday consist of the four late games. The action starts with the Minnesota-Ottawa bout, and along with the Wild, the Bruins, Rangers and Canadiens will also be on the wrong end of back-to-back games. Here are a handful of options to consider while assembling your lineups.

GOALIE

Craig Anderson, OTT vs. MIN ($7,600): The veteran goalie is best viewed as a low-priced flier, but there is certainly upside. Ottawa has allowed over 30 shots per game but the seventh fewest high-danger scoring chances per 60 minutes. As a result, Anderson owns a tidy 7-3 record with a .931 save percentage and a 2.18 GAA. Minnesota also enters the game on the second leg of back-to-back road games and having scored just seven goals over its past four games.

CENTER

Jonathan Toews, CHI vs. MON ($6,300): The offense is becoming less consistent (10 points through 15 games), but Toews shoulders a significant role in all situations averaging 21:16 per night with 3:34 on the power play. Additionally, he's starting 58.2 percent of his shifts in the offensive zone. Toews has also been playing with Patrick Kane in all situations, and the duo boasts an excellent 3.1 goals per 60 minutes and 55.4 Corsi For percentage at five-on-five. Montreal is playing its second game in consecutive nights and travels to Illinois to soften this matchup for Chicago, too.

Additionally, he's starting 58.2 percent of his shifts in the offensive zone. Montreal is playing its second game in consecutive nights and travels to Illinois to soften this matchup for Chicago, too.

Kyle Turris, OTT vs. MIN ($5,600): After starting the campaign with five goals and two helpers through the first nine games, Turris has cooled to just a single goal on 13 shots over his past five outings. He's still logging hefty minutes (19:12 and 2:31 with the man advantage) and is averaging over two shots per game. Minnesota should turn to Darcy Kuemper on Sunday, and the backup owns an underwhelming .910 save percentage, which sets up as a slump-busting matchup for Turris.

WING

Nathan MacKinnon, COL vs. BOS ($6,500): With Matt Duchene (concussion) likely out, MacKinnon should see an extended role against Boston. The Bruins enter on the wrong end of back-to-back road games, which means stalwart Tuukka Rask should relinquish the crease to backup Zane McIntyre (.859 save percentage). MacKinnon has 20 shots on net through his past five games with just a single goal, and his 93.6 PDO for the season suggests there is plenty of positive regression ahead.

Ryan Spooner, BOS at COL ($4,300): The floor is low with Spooner, but his salary mitigates the risk. He's locked into a top-six gig with a role on the No. 1 power-play unit and has posted two goals and two helpers with 15 shots on net over his past six games. Additionally, his 2.32 points per 60 minutes ranks 62nd in the league over the past two seasons, so there's a nice ceiling accompanying the low floor.

Ryan Dzingel, OTT vs. MIN ($4,100): With an uptick in ice time of late (15:38 and 1:55 on the power play through his past three games), Dzingel makes a nice option to stack alongside linemate Kyle Turris. Dzingel's speed presents matchup problems, and he's posted a 29th-ranked 3.06 points per 60 minutes among skaters with at least 175 minutes this season. Sure, it's a small sample size, but so is the investment.

DEFENSE

Duncan Keith, CHI vs. MON ($5.500): Paired with Jonathan Toews, Keith presents a nice contrarian option at an affordable salary. The Canadiens are allowing the eighth most high-danger scoring chances per 60 minutes in the league and travel to Chicago on the wrong end of back-to-back games. Plus, among defensemen with 2,000 minutes over the past two seasons, Keith's 1.59 points per 60 minutes ranks ninth in the league.

Tyson Barrie, COL vs. BOS ($5,100): Now 12 games and 31 shots removed from his last goal, Barrie's current 93.1 PDO and 3.1 shooting percentage scream upcoming positive regression. He starts 59.5 percent of his shifts in the offensive zone and has averaged 22:19 minutes per night with 3:23 on the power play. This manageable salary is worth a flier with Boston entering on the wrong end of back-to-back road games.
