DraftKings NHL: Sunday Picks

DraftKings NHL: Sunday Picks

This article is part of our DraftKings NHL series.

The main event contests at DraftKings include the four evening games beginning with the 3:00 p.m. EST matchup between Arizona and Edmonton. Here are a handful of selections across multiple price ranges to consider while assembling your lineups.

GOALIE

Steve Mason, PHI vs. CAL ($7,700): The Flames are averaging just 2.26 goals per game and a league-low 18.0 scoring chances per 60 minutes. Mason entered the year with a solid .921 save percentage over the past three seasons, so his current .892 mark is eyeing positive regression. This is a slump-busting matchup, and Mason checks out as a low-priced flier with upside.

CENTER

Connor McDavid, EDM vs. ARI ($8,700): In a small player pool, it is risky fading elite scorers. In this case, McDavid also lands in a cushy matchup with Arizona, who allows the third-most goals per game (3.26) and the second-most scoring chances per 60 minutes (25:05). Since entering the league, McDavid's 3.43 points per 60 minutes trails only Patrick Kane (3.52) among all skaters with at least 1,000 minutes.

Brandon Pirri, NYR vs. OTT ($4,200): Projected to center Rick Nash and Mats Zuccarello, Pirri finds himself in a nice spot to cruise over value at this salary. Plus, despite scoring just one goal over his past 15 games, Pirri still ranks 60th in goals per 60 minutes this year among skaters with at least 200 minutes (1.09).

WING

Brayden Schenn, PHI vs. CAL ($5,300): Expected to line up with Claude Giroux and Jakub Voracek in all situations, Schenn checks out as a lineup building block at this salary. Schenn has a single goal over his past 14 games with a 3.4 shooting percentage, so there is some positive regression ahead in the goal column, and Calgary is allowing 3.0 goals per game. The winger also averages 3:34 of power-play time per game.

Jesse Puljujarvi, EDM vs. ARI ($5,000): The rookie has been riding shotgun next to McDavid of late, and Puljujarvi has four assists, four shots on net and four blocked shots. As noted, this is a high-end matchup, and Puljujarvi helps mitigate McDavid's hefty salary when stacking the linemates.

Tobias Rieder, ARI at EDM ($3,700): At this price point, it's difficult to find a player with a similar fantasy floor and upside. Rieder has four points -- three goals -- and 16 shots on net over his past six games while averaging 18:02 of ice time. The Oilers are also allowing the ninth-most scoring chances per 60 minutes (21.83).

DEFENSE

Shayne Gostisbehere, PHI vs. CAL ($5,400): With the second-highest points per 60 minutes (2.02) among defensemen with at least 1,000 minutes since entering the league, Gostisbehere is a screaming value Sunday. Calgary also has the second-lowest penalty kill percentage (75.3 percent) in the league, and Gostisbehere is at his best with the man advantage.

Oscar Klefbom, EMD vs. ARI ($5,100): Now quarterbacking the No. 1 power-play unit, Klefbom has averaged 22:56 of ice with 3:41 on the power play over his past five games. The uptick in ice time aligns with Klefbom scoring three goals and two assists during the five-game stretch. He's also a high-volume shooter (2.55 shots per game), and this is a prime matchup.
