NHL Waiver Wire: FAAB Targets

NHL Waiver Wire: FAAB Targets

This article is part of our NHL Waiver Wire series.

It's another busy week in the NHL with 11 teams playing four games, so chasing four-game streamers is a viable strategy. However, there are some key targets to toss your FAAB dollars at, and this week's recommendations are separated into top and secondary classifications.

Top targets

Michael Cammalleri, F, NJD (Yahoo: 37%, ESPN: 41%, CBS: 70%): When healthy, Cammalleri still drives offense. He's posted consecutive multi-point showings (two goals and four assists) after missing six games with a personal issue. Cammalleri should be owned in all leagues, and over the past two years, his 2.88 points per 60 minutes ranks 13th in the league among skaters with at least 1,000 minutes played.

Mikko Rantanen, F, COL (Yahoo: 5%, ESPN: 7%, CBS: 33%): After a year of seasoning in the AHL (60 points over 52 games), the rookie has caught fire of late with two goals and five helpers through his past seven games. Rantanen is averaging 17:47 of ice time per game with 2:47 on the man advantage. Additionally, he's spending most of his even strength time with Nathan MacKinnon.

Anthony Mantha, F, DET (Yahoo: 2%, ESPN: 4%, CBS: 24%): While the sample size is small, the monstrous winger has posted two goals, an assist and 13 shots on net over his past three games. Mantha has also played a top-six role and averaged 16:33 of ice (2:06 with the man advantage) during the three-game span. The high shot volume is especially encouraging for the talented

The high shot volume is especially encouraging for the talented scoring.

Oscar Klefbom, D, EDM (Yahoo: 17%, ESPN: 14%, CBS: 42%): Averaging an incredible 2.55 shots per game, Klefbom has also climbed the depth chart and is currently quarterbacking the No. 1 power-play unit. He's scored three goals and added two assists through his past five games while logging 22:56 of ice with 3:41 on the power play.

Chad Johnson, G, CAL (Yahoo: 31%, ESPN: 18%, CBS: 30%): While Brian Elliott has scuffled (.882 save percentage and 3.43 GAA), Johnson has won five of his past six starts with an outstanding .958 save percentage and 1.17 GAA. Johnson projects to continue stealing a few more starts from expected No. 1 goalie, and while Johnson's numbers during his current stretch are unsustainable, he did post a solid .920 save percentage and 2.36 GAA with Buffalo last year.

Secondary options

Mikael Granlund, F, MIN (Yahoo: 12%, ESPN: 13%, CBS: 23%): It seems like Granlund has been around forever, but he's actually just entering his prime, and has eight points -- three goals -- over his past eight games. The 24-year-old forward is well on his way to a career year, and head coach Bruce Boudreau has a knack for putting his players in a position to succeed.

Leon Draisaitl, F, EDM (Yahoo: 52%, ESPN: 68%, CBS: 74%): Likely owned in most competitive settings, Draisaitl's availability is worth checking on. His 2.08 points per 60 minutes at five-on-five over the past two seasons rank 21st among all skaters with 1,250 minutes or more, and Draisaitl is now rolling with the No. 1 power-play unit.

David Perron, F, STL (Yahoo: 20%, ESPN: 25%, CBS: 35%): Currently sporting a six-game point streak, Perron has climbed the depth chart and found his form offensively with Alexander Steen (upper body) out. Perron is also a solid contributor in the shots and PIM departments, too. He has fleeting value for the duration of Steen's absence, and potentially longer.

Jesse Puljujarvi, F, EDM (Yahoo: 19%, ESPN: 9%, CBS: 48%): Chasing Connor McDavid's linemates is advised, and Puljujarvi has been riding shotgun with the superstar lately. Over his past four games, Puljujarvi has four assists, four shots on goal, four blocked shots, four PIM and a plus-5 rating. The rookie will have some game-to-game volatility, but his current situation is fantasy friendly, and Puljujarvi is extremely talented.

Dmitry Orlov, D, WAS (Yahoo: 6%, ESPN: 9%, CBS: 27%): The 25-year-old defenseman would likely have more offensive upside with another team, but his fantasy value breaks even because of the strength of the Capitals. Orlov quietly tips the scales across all categories, and he can be especially helpful in the plus-minus column, which can be a tricky statistic to count on.

Jonathan Bernier, G, ANA (Yahoo: 11%, ESPN: 7%, CBS: 19%): Out of the Toronto craze and settled into backup duty out west, Bernier has performed strongly to start his tenure with the Ducks. Bernier has won three of his six starts with a .935 save percentage and 2.07 GAA, and he should grab a handful of potential starts per month.

Players to consider from previous articles: Mitch Marner, Alexander Wennberg, Valtteri Filppula, Derek Stepan, Charlie Coyle, Victor Rask, Nazem Kadri, Viktor Arvidsson, Patrick Eaves, Robby Fabbri, Brock Nelson, Anthony DeAngelo, Morgan Rielly, Jeff Petry, Damon Severson, Andrei Vasilevskiy, Calvin Pickard
