DraftKings NHL: Sunday Values

This article is part of our DraftKings NHL series.

There are only three games in the NHL on Sunday, and the all-day contests at DraftKings begin with the Detroit/Toronto matchup that's being played outdoors at BMO Field. It's such a limited player pool that even if there are questionable ice and weather conditions, you shouldn't be afraid to target a few Red Wings and Maple Leafs if the salaries suit your lineup strategy. Here are a handful of recommendations across multiple price points to consider at DraftKings on Sunday.

GOALIE

Anthony Stolarz, PHI vs. ANA ($7,300): After winning 10 consecutive games, Philadelphia has now lost five of its past six outings and might have to turn to Stolarz on Sunday. No. 1 netminder Steve Mason is dealing with a hand injury, and if Stolarz receives the starting nod, he would check out as a cheap flier. While the sample size is limited, the 22-year-old rookie owns a solid .938 save percentage and 1.79 GAA through four appearances this year.

CENTER

Auston Matthews, TOR vs. DET ($7,500): Sporting an impressive 11th-ranked 2.9 points and second-ranked 12.56 shots per 60 minutes among all skaters with 600 minutes this season, Matthews is priced for profit Sunday. His shot volume presents a high floor, and the rookie has six goals and 10 points while averaging 18:54 of ice (3:01 with the man advantage over his past eight games.

His shot volume presents a high floor, and the rookie has six goals and 10 points while averaging 18:54 of ice (3:01 with the man advantage over his past eight games.

Henrik Zetterberg, DET at TOR ($5,400): A player's track record against a particular team is rarely predictive of future results or a viable justification to target them. However, in Zetterberg's case, it's added incentive to an already nice outlook. The veteran sports a five-game point streak with 11 shots and an average of 19:14 of ice time -- 3:34 on the power play -- during the span, and Toronto has allowed the fourth most scoring chances per 60 minutes (29.2) in the league this year. Plus, Zetterberg has a manageable salary and 10 points through nine games against the Maple Leafs the past two years.

WING

Jakub Voracek, PHI at ANA ($6,800): Among skaters with at least 750 minutes this season, Voracek's 2.61 points per 60 minutes rank third in the league, and he's currently mired in a three-game point drought. The offensive skid follows a 13-game stretch where he posted four goals, 18 points and 44 shots. With Anaheim allowing 3.4 goals per game in December, this is a nice bounce-back spot for Voracek.

T.J. Oshie, WAS vs. OTT ($5,900): With a multi-point showing Saturday (one goal and one assist), Oshie snapped a five-game scoreless stretch. He's playing with Alex Ovechkin in all situations, and the duo has combined for a solid 2.91 goals per 60 minutes at five-on-five over the past two years. Additionally, Ottawa allowed an average of 3.0 goals per game in December.

Connor Brown, TOR vs. DET ($3,900): Through his past four games, Brown has averaged 19:46 of ice with 2:12 on the power play while registering two goals, four points and 10 shots on net. He's combined with Auston Matthews to post an impressive 4.36 goals per 60 minutes at five-on-five, and Brown checks out as an excellent stack candidate alongside his center to help balance Matthews' hefty salary.

DEFENSE

Shayne Gostisbehere, PHI at ANA ($4,900): With a fourth-ranked 1.91 points per 60 minutes among all defensemen with at least 1,500 minutes over the past two years, Gostisbehere's salary stands out as a bargain. The Ducks allowed 3.4 goals per game in December, and Gostisbehere is to the go-to offensive defenseman for Philly. Plus, with just a single assist through his past seven games, there is positive regression ahead offensively.

Dmitry Orlov, WAS vs. OTT ($4,300): Quietly posting solid numbers relative to his salary of late, Orlov has eight assists, 18 shots and 14 blocked shots over his past 11 games. He's also gone 18 games and 28 shots without a goal, and the Senators are allowing the second most scoring chances per 60 minutes (28.09) of any team in action Sunday. After scoring eight goals last year, Orlov's puck luck is going to turn in his favor sooner than later.
