FanDuel NHL: Wednesday Picks

FanDuel NHL: Wednesday Picks

This article is part of our FanDuel NHL series.

What a night to play daily fantasy hockey. There are only three games in the NHL on Wednesday, and five of the six teams are in a back-to-back spot. Here are a handful of players across multiple price ranges to consider while assembling your FanDuel lineups.

GOALIE

Jeff Zatkoff, LOS vs. COL ($7,400): Colorado averaged just 1.82 goals per game in January and sported a league-worst minus-1.73 goal differential on a per-game basis for the month. Zatkoff has lost each of his past three starts with 10 goals allowed and an .857 save percentage. However, this is a ripe matchup for a breakout showing, and with the Kings in the thick of the playoff race, they can't afford to lose to the worst team in the league.

CENTER

Anze Kopitar, LOS vs. COL ($6,700): The star pivot capitalized against Arizona on Tuesday, and now the Kings land in another soft matchup. Colorado allowed 3.55 goals per game in January and has surrendered the most goals per 60 minutes (3.37) for the year. Kopitar has also turned up his game of late with 13 points -- three goals -- through his past 10 games while averaging 20:24 of ice time.

Lars Eller, WAS vs. BOS ($3,500): A sneaky source of cap relief, Eller should see soft matchups against Boston's questionable depth Wednesday. Additionally the 27-year-old center has been a solid contributor recently with five goals, eight points and 16 shots over his past 10 games. Considering the cap space Eller opens up, that's target-worthy production.

WING

Brad Marchand, BOS at WAS ($7,500): This is a cushy salary for Marchand. He's currently providing a high-floor, high-ceiling combo with 11 goals, 20 points and 46 shots through his past 20 games, including three consecutive multi-point showings. While it's easy to point to his recent five-point outing boosting his numbers, you should instead acknowledge his potential to provide contest-winning output. Expect him to be scarcely owned Wednesday, too.

Jason Zucker, MIN at CGY ($5,700): The surprising NHL leader in points per 60 minutes (3.14) among all skaters with at least 500 minutes at five-on-five this season, Zucker is showing no signs of slowing down with nine goals, 18 points and 49 shots through his past 18 games. He's locked into an excellent offensive line with Mikko Koivu and Mikael Granlund, and Zucker is the prioritized shooter.

Andre Burakovsky, WAS vs. BOS ($5,300): Riding hot of late with five goals, 12 points and 18 shots through his past nine games, Burakovsky presents value and stacks nicely with linemate Lars Eller. That duo is up to a solid 3.09 goals per 60 minutes at five-on-five this season, and Boston allowed 3.07 goals per game in January.

DEFENSE

Drew Doughty, LOS vs. COL ($6,400): As noted, this is an extremely soft matchup, and Doughty sports a five-game point streak while averaging 26:50 of ice time per outing. Additionally, the star defenseman is the only player in the league to have cleared 6,000 minutes over the past three seasons, so while his 1.25 points per 60 minutes are a fairly modest amount, you also can't score fantasy points from the bench.

Dmitry Orlov, WAS vs. BOS ($4,900): John Carlson's return cuts into some of Orlov's fantasy upside, but the 25-year-old defenseman has two goals, six points, 13 shots and six blocked shots through his past seven games; he lines up well as a value option alongside the other Washington recommendations. The Capitals averaged 4.33 goals per game in January, and Orlov's emerged as a solid contributor.
