Yahoo DFS Hockey: Tuesday Picks

This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Hockey series.

A nine-game slate provides plenty of opportunity to excel Tuesday. Here are some picks that should give you the best bang for your buck...

Goalie

Cory Schneider, NJD vs. STL ($28)

Schneider checks in Tuesday as a high-value option, sporting a dirt cheap price tag despite averaging 14.4 fantasy points per game. The Massachusetts native has achieved half of his wins this season on home ice and boasts an impressive .927 career save percentage against the Blues. Speaking of which, the team from St. Louis ranks 22nd in the NHL with 2.63 away goals per game this season, making Schneider that much more appealing.

Goalie to Avoid

Mike Smith, CGY vs. VAN ($37)

While Smith has fit in nicely with his new team overall, he has not fared well playing in Calgary compared to playing on the road -- the 35-year-old's .931 save percentage drops to .914 at Scotiabank Saddledome and he has garnered the same number of wins there despite playing three more games. A decently successful Vancouver team coming to town Tuesday screams trap game, making Smith's price hard to justify.

Center

Jonathan Drouin, MON vs. VGK ($19)

After an atrocious start to the season, the Canadiens have seemingly figured it out and Drouin has been one of the main factors in the resurgence -- over his last five contests, the Quebec native has four points and 16 shots on goal. Add in the fact that Montreal will likely either be shooting on Max Lagace, who is coming off a shootout loss Monday, or 19-year-old Dylan Ferguson, and Drouin's value is stupendous Tuesday.

Center to Avoid

Leon Draisaitl, EDM @ NYI ($22)

Very few people would have expected the Oilers to be the lowest scoring team in the NHL to this point but here we are. Draisaitl ranks fourth on the team in scoring but surprisingly has yet to record a point on the road, following a trend with the rest of his team, as Edmonton is averaging a hideous 1.50 goals per away game.

Wing

Viktor Arvidsson, NSH @ CLS ($21)

Arvidsson's stock has been rising of late, as the Swede has two goals in as many games and has fired nine shots on goal over that span. With the Blue Jackets playing the second game of a back-to-back, the Predators will either get to face a tired Sergei Bobrovsky, who allowed four goals in his only back-to-back start against the Wild on Oct. 14, or the mediocre Joonas Korpisalo, making Arvidsson a nice play.

Andrew Shaw, MON vs. VGK ($16)

Shaw is riding a three-game point streak that has seen him put up four points and nine shots on goal. The 26-year-old has carved out a nice role for himself with Montreal's power-play unit where he shares the ice with potential stack option Drouin. With home ice underneath them, the pair should be able to take advantage of the Golden Knights' uneasy goalie situation Tuesday.

Wings to Avoid

Evander Kane, BUF vs. WAS ($24)

Kane and the Sabres have been very bad on home ice this season, with the individual recording four points and a minus-3 rating, and the team averaging a league-worst 1.80 goals per game in their own arena. A visit from the Capitals, who are riding a three-game winning streak, is probably not a great way for the Vancouver native and the hapless team around him to get back on track.

Corey Perry, ANH vs. LA ($19)

Perry's pricing Tuesday is mostly unreflective of his play lately, as the veteran winger has just two points and a dreadful minus-5 rating in his last six contests. Likely Kings' starter Jonathan Quick has looked absolutely outstanding in his comeback tour this season, making Perry, who has struggled somewhat to score at home this season, a very uncertain option Tuesday.

Defense

Aaron Ekblad, FLA @ CAR ($18)

Ekblad is continuing to live up to his billing as a #1 overall draft pick, but the one thing you really love to see in his game from a fantasy perspective is his consistent ability to shoot the puck, as he's taken at least two shots on goal in nine of his last 11 games. Florida's power-play quarterback will look to score against a Carolina team that is allowing 3.20 goals per game at home.

Nick Leddy, NYI vs. EDM ($17)

Leddy has caught fire recently, putting up three goals, five assists, and 18 shots on goal in only the last five contests. The Minnesota native has begun to feel comfortable as the quarterback of the Islanders' power play, as his four power-play points this season have also come in the last four games. Add in the fact that Edmonton has struggled on both ends of the ice thus far, and Leddy is very appealing Tuesday.

Defensemen to Avoid

Zach Werenski, CLS vs. NSH ($20)

Werenski and the Blue Jackets will be playing their second game in as many nights Tuesday after enduring a 5-3 loss in New York on Monday. This doesn't bode well for the defenseman and his compatriots, especially against a Nashville team that has looked spry on the road lately, winning their last two away games. Additionally, Werenski's home statistics leave something to be desired, as his home plus-minus is five points poorer than his road rating.

Kris Russell, EDM @ NYI ($17)

It's a bit puzzling to see Russell's price where it sits Tuesday, as the defenseman has taken zero shots on goal, recorded no points, and has no time on the power play in his last four games. A trip to Long Island is not likely to break the 30-year-old's slump, so you shouldn't roll with him especially considering the better options at that price.
