FanDuel NHL: Monday Value Plays

FanDuel NHL: Monday Value Plays

This article is part of our FanDuel NHL series.

Goalie

Mike Smith, CGY vs PHI ($8,200): Smith got throttled in his last start, allowing five goals to Edmonton at home. In five of his last seven starts, he has posted between 16 and 42 fantasy points. The Flames are home favorites against a Flyers team that has struggled on the road, averaging just 2.67 goals per game. Smith has plenty of upside in this matchup as he looks to hand Philadelphia its 11th straight loss.

Center

Mathew Barzal, NYI at FLA ($5,000): While most will run to the top line of John Tavares, Anders Lee, and Josh Bailey, consider Barzal, who skates on the second line with Jordan Eberle and Andrew Ladd. At a cheap salary, Barzal has six goals and 18 assists on the season and points in seven of his last eight games.

Mikael Backlund, CGY vs PHI ($5,300): Backlund is the second-line center for the Flames, and at just $5,400, he's a productive value option to look at Monday. He has points in three of his last four games with seven goals and 11 assists on the season. His linemates Michael Frolik and Matthew Tkachuk are skaters worth looking at if you want to pair up Backlund for a low-cost stack.

Wing

Josh Bailey, NYI at FLA ($5,800): It appears that Bailey will forever be underpriced, which is fine by those of us rostering him while he's producing With points in four of his last five games, he's as solid a value play as any. Bailey kates on one of the more productive lines in hockey and sees time on the power play, where he has 14 points. That should come into play against a bad Florida penalty kill.

Jonathan Huberdeau, FLA vs NYI ($6,100): Huberdeau and the Panthers have been productive in scoring goals at home with 3.42 tallies per game in Sunrise. Skating on the first line, Huberdeau has points in three of his last five games and has averaged 3.08 shots on goal this season. Three of his eight goals have come on the power play, and he's also added four assists with the man advantage.

Timo Meier, SJ at WAS ($3,300): Meier was the ninth overall pick last season for the Sharks and has been skating on the top line of late. He is surely a risk in this spot, but the salary screams value and it won't take much from Meier to hit value. With regular top-liners Joe Thornton and Joe Pavelski, Meier should see plenty of chances to produce with at even strength. He also sees some time on the second power-play unit.

Defense

Charlie McAvoy, BOS at NAS ($4,600): Boston's young defenseman has points in three of his last four games, including a goal and four assists over that span. At just $4,300, McAvoy offers solid scoring upside, as he's posted 14 points — including three on the power play. Nashville has been giving up a lot of production to defensemen of late, also.

T.J. Brodie, CGY vs PHI ($4,200): Brodie is coming off of a two-point night, giving him 15 points on the season. He's averaged 23 minutes of ice time and sees time on the top power-play unitt. Fellow rearguards Mark Giordano and Dougie Hamilton cost more, sp Brodie is a value play that could pay off huge in this spot at home.
