DraftKings NHL: Wednesday Picks

DraftKings NHL: Wednesday Picks

This article is part of our DraftKings NHL series.

GOALIE

Frederik Andersen, TOR vs. OTT ($8,400): Toronto is the only team not playing the second leg of a back-to-back Wednesday, and the Senators enter this contest with an active 6-15-4 record while scoring just 2.15 goals per 60 minutes. Andersen is pricey and could be highly owned, but in a shallow player pool, he's likely the safest option available. He's collected 22 wins and recorded a .922 save percentage through 36 games, after all.

CENTER

Auston Matthews, TOR vs. OTT ($7,900): Not only is Ottawa struggling to score, the Sens are allowing goals and high-danger scoring chances in bunches during their slump, with 3.66 and 12.1 per 60 minutes, respectively. Matthews is another high-priced Maple Leaf who could be chalky, but again, he offers the high-floor, high-ceiling combo worth spending up for. Through eight games since returning from a concussion, the American has recorded six goals, seven points and 27 shots.

Nick Schmaltz, CHI vs. MIN ($5,400): Dating back to mid-Decemeber, Schmaltz has eight goals and 15 points through 13 games, as the 21-year-old center continues to showcase excellent chemistry with linemate Patrick Kane. Schmaltz isn't the screaming value he was a few weeks ago, but there is still plenty of profit room built into this salary.

WING

Mikael Granlund, MIN at CHI ($6,200): The Finnish winger is having another strong offensive campaign fuelled by a career-high in ice time (19:14 with 2:56 on the power play) and shots per game (2.71). He's also posted five goals, five assists and 28 shots through his past seven outings, so his current form also checks out. Additionally, the Blackhawks have allowed the fourth most high-danger scoring chances per hour (12.51) in the league.

William Nylander, TOR vs. OTT ($6,100): A strong stack option with linemate Auston Matthews, Nylander has registered four goals and six assists through his past 10 games. The winger's salary isn't prohibitive, and he's also combined with Matthews for an impressive 4.74 goals per 60 minutes this season.

Zach Parise, MIN at CHI ($4,700): The veteran has recorded just a single assist through four games since returning from a back injury that cost him the majority of the first half of the season. He's fired exactly three shots in each outing and is averaging 15:42 of ice time (2:58 on the power play), so the offense is coming considering he owns a solid 11.3 career shooting percentage.

DEFENSE

Jordan Oesterle, CHI vs. MIN ($4,500): The scoring bubble is going to burst at some point for the 25-year-old defenseman, but in a shallow player pool, he still stands out as a solid target. With three goals and four assists through his past six games, Oesterle has seen his ice time climb to 24:20 per contest during the offensive surge. Additionally, he's quarterbacked the No. 1 power-play unit the past two outings.

Mathew Dumba, MIN at CHI ($4,400): Sporting a five-game point drought, Dumba's salary has dipped into profit territory as his 1.29 points and 4.61 shots per hour don't match this price. He logged 21:45 of ice time (2:37 with the man advantage) per game during the slump, so it isn't a lack of opportunity hurting his production, either. Additionally, with Chicago allowing plenty of high-danger scoring chances, statistical correction could be ahead.
