After losing to Ovince Saint Preux via split decision in May, Rua will fight in front of a home crowd for what could be the last fight of his career. Rua's last win was in July of 2020 when he beat Antonio Rogerio Nogueira via split decision, so if this ends up being his last fight, he'll look to go out on a high note against Potieria, who is still seeking his first UFC victory.

This fight quickly devolved into an extremely slow-placed boxing match. On the surface, that would have appeared to play right into Shogun's hands, but he was simply either unable or unwilling to engage with OSP with regularity. Shogun literally spent the final ten seconds of the fight running away, which was an extremely poor visual. Rua will celebrate his 20th year as a professional fighter this coming November. He will also turn 41 years of age that same month. Shogun is somehow 5-3-1 in his past nine fights dating back to August 2015, but it's clear he's lost multiple steps. Any forthcoming appearance inside the Octagon could conceivably be his last.

The company needs to be exceedingly careful regarding who they match him up against in they plan on running the Brazilian out there a couple more times.
