Can't defend takedown in loss
Lapilus lost to Farid Basharat via unanimous decision (27-30, 27-30, 27-30) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
In what was one of the more underrated stories of 2023 MMA, Lapilus returned to the company in September in his native France and earned a unanimous decision win over Caolan Loughran in his first UFC bout since September 2016. He predictably found life much more difficult here against an undefeated prospect in Basharat. Lapilus held his own on the feet, but five successful takedowns from his opponent torpedoed any chance Taylor had of taking a decision. Lapilus is still just 31 years of age despite all his time away, so we should see him back in the Octagon in fairly short order.

Undefeated opponent next
Lapilus will compete against Farid Basharat in a bantamweight fight at UFC Vegas 83 on Jan. 13, according to Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl.
ANALYSIS
Lapilus will get right up to speed with his next fight by competing against an undefeated prospect without a blemish across his 11 fights, two with the UFC. Lapilus already got his second UFC tenure off to a great start by eventually defeating Caolan Loughran in spite of multiple withdrawals before they fought.

Wins first UFC bout since 2016
Lapilus defeated Caolan Loughran via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Paris.
ANALYSIS
One of the most popular MMA fighters in all of France, the 31-year-old Lapilus returned to the UFC for the first time since September 2016. He fought well against Loughran, winning virtually all the striking exchanges between the two and defending exceedingly well despite allowing his opponent to land a pair of takedowns. He absorbed very little damage, and that's always a selling point in the eyes of the judges. Lapilus went 3-1 in his first stint with the company, so he probably never should have been handed his walking papers in the first place.

Taking on Loughran
Lapilus is set to take on Caolan Loughran in a bantamweight fight at a UFC event on Sept. 2, Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl reports.
ANALYSIS
Lapilus is taking on Loughran after his initial fight against Muin Gafurov was called off. Both Lapilus and Loughran stand at the same 5-foot-6 height, with Lapilus being the more experienced fighter. Lapilus will look to use his experience to his advantage in this short notice bout.

Not fighting Gafurov
Lapilus will not fight Muin Gafurov at UFC Paris on Sept. 2, MMAJunkie.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Visa issues forced Gafurov to withdraw from UFC Paris. So in less than a week's notice, the promotion has to find a replacement for Lapilus or scratch his hometown fight altogether.
