Cherant lost to William Knight via KO (punches) at 3:58 of Round 1 at UFC on ESPN 29 on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
Our exposure to Cherant has been minimal, but what we have seen has not gone well. He was knocked out by Aleksa Camur on an episode of Dana White's Contender Series back in July 2019, but was still given a UFC opportunity against Alonzo Menifield this past March. He was submitted in 71 seconds in that fight before being torched by Knight in less that four minutes on Saturday. Cherant doesn't have a knockout win in his pro career and has never fought anyone of note. It's a terrible combination, and there is no guarantee he gets a third chance with the company.

Cherant has been suspended six months by the Nevada Athletic Commission pending medical clearance for a right rib injury, MMAFighting.com reports.

He forfeited 20 percent of his purse to Menifield in order for the fight to continue and then barely lasted a minute. It's impossible to judge Cherant given the set of circumstances leading up to the bout. Nonetheless, he did make a basic grappling mistake that led to an easy submission for his opponent -- something he'll need to tighten up his next time out. Still, he will almost certainly get another opportunity with the company given his willingness to "save" this fight.
