NASCAR O'Reilly Series Race Preview
Ryan Sieg took home his first Seres win at Daytona last weekend after 424 career starts. That was quite a milestone and achievement, but it also wasn't enough to push him into the top-12 in scoring, meaning he won't be in the Chase set to begin this weekend. The standings won't reset to zero, but they do get reconfigured. Justin Allgaier – the regular-season champ – will begin the Chase with 2,100 points, with each successive driver losing anywhere from 25 to 5 points down to the final Chase qualifier. In total, 80 points separate Rajah Caruth and Allgaier.
The format attempts to balance a reward for strong regular-season performance while also delivering a compelling product in the last several races of the season. Nevertheless, Allgaier enters the weekend as the heavy favorite (+120) to win the Chase, with Carson Kvpail (+450) next in line.

Darlington is a classic NASCAR track, which is made clear by the O'Reilly Series' extensive history. It's known by a few different nicknames, with the "Lady in Black" and the "Track Too Tough to Tame" being the most common. As those names suggest, the course is often unforgiving, with car setup being particularly difficult given the unique egg shape of the track. After a schedule modification last season, Darlington is set to host its second race of the season and in its traditional slot of Labor Day weekend.
While much of this weekend will be business as usual, one significant difference is that there will be no Cup drivers in the field. As reflected in the race winners, Darlington is often a track where elite talent participates throughout the weekend. That won't be the case this time around with the Chase having started in both series.
Qualifying has become more important in recent years, with seven of the last eight race winners qualifying fourth or better.

Given the difficulty of the track, it's not particularly surprising that Darlington is typically a race where the top drivers excel. The list of Tier 1 and 2 drivers is pretty straightforward as a result. Allgaier has been dominant at this venue, winning two of the last four races while also finishing inside the top three on three occasions in that span. Jones has similarly run very well in the last two races at Darlington and also has four top-five finishes in the last five races. Kvapil has similarly surged, winning two of the last four races this season while finishing inside the top three in all four chances.
Love and Mayer are the values of Tier 2 and are both decent options as secondary building blocks. Things get a bit more difficult after that, with limited strong options below $8,000. However, Sanchez is a primary target. He has a good history at Darlington and has also surged in the last few races this season, finishing inside the top 20 in his last five races and inside the top 15 twice. Fresh off of his first win, Sieg is a steady option if he fits your roster build.
Alfredo and Thompson are similarly steady options in Tier 4. Dye has run a limited number of races in the O'Reilly Series, but he has shown the ability to move through the field after qualifying poorly. He has some upside, but he is also a significant risk.

The betting market is comparable to DFS pricing, with Allgaier, Kvapil and Jones making up a pretty clear tier as the favorites. Allgaier's track record is difficult to argue with, but Kvapil was in incredible form to close the regular season. For those willing to take a bit more of a dart throw, Mayer (+1000) is worth considering.
One driver that hasn't been discussed is Sammy Smith. He has top-10 finishes in each of his last three races at Darlington and has six top-five finishes this season.
