Shepherd had Landon Cassill drive his Xfinity car for him in Miami, but Shepherd says he plans to be back next season, NBC Sports reports.
ANALYSIS
The 77-year-old will continue racing in 2019. The NASCAR veteran has been active in the sport since 1970 and that's an amazing accomplishment. Shepherd made 20 of the 33 scheduled Xfinity Series events last season, with a top finish of 32nd-place at Indianapolis.

Made 12 starts last season and it was a start-and-park effort for his self-owned race team. Shared the car with Landon Cassill. This team will race in more than half the schedule with the same start-and-park results in 2020.
Made 20 starts last season, and all 20 were DNF's in what amounts to only a start-and-park operation. The 77-year-old insists he will never retire from racing.
Shepherd's plans have not been announced but he generally races part-time in his self-owned team in the Xfinity Series. He made 19 starts last season.
Shepherd will compete in as many events in 2016 as funding permits. At 74-years-young he's not very competitive driver in this racing series.
The 70-year-old Shepherd is poised to race another full-time season in 2013 in the Nationwide Series.
2006 plans are not clear. Little or no fantasy value since the teams' full season plans are not known, and a full schedule is not likely.
