Set to compete in Sunday's Daytona 500 at Daytona International Speedway with veteran Justin Marks, Rick Ware Racing is full-speed ahead working to solidify its driver lineup for other races this season. For the Feb. 25 running of the QuikTrip Folds of Honor 500 at Atlanta Motor Speedway, XFINITY Series veteran Rhodes will drive the team's-No. 51 Chevrolet Camaro ZR1 chartered car in the second Cup Series race of the season, Rick Ware Racing PR reports.
ANALYSIS
Rhodes has been a journeyman driver in the Xfinity Series the last few seasons. He'll finally get his big chance to race at NASCAR's top level. Rhodes will get the spot start at Atlanta next weekend in RWR's No. 51 Chevrolet. This team will use a driver rotation, so Rhodes could see some more starts throughout the season.

Rhodes could factor largely in Rick Ware Racing's expansion to two full-time race teams this season. The 25-year-old driver made six starts last season in the team's two cars, primarily the No. 51 Chevrolet. While there was an assortment of drivers in RWR's lineup, Rhodes seemed to stand out as the best option. The season highlight was his 22nd-place finish at Texas Motor Speedway in the spring. At the time of this writing Rick Ware Racing hasn't announced a driver lineup for 2019, so a lot of this is pure speculation. However, we believe Rhodes will play a major role with this team, and possibly even win the full-time driving job for the second RWR team.
Rhodes is a free agent driver in 2018.
This team's plans have not been fully announced as of mid-January, but the team will be returning for another full schedule. Gone will be last year's driver Ryan Preece. He led them to one Top-10 and 13 Top-20 finishes in 2016. JDM will look to ink another driver before the end of January and start making plans for the upcoming campaign. This team's potential will be directly tied to the driver that they sign to race in 2017, so it's difficult to rate them much higher than the near-30 ranking at the outset of the season. However, watch closely to see who they sign to fill the seat of the team's Chevrolet. There is the potential here for this outfit to outperform the other JD Motorsports' entries in the Xfinity Series.

Veteran NASCAR team owner Johnny Davis will attack the 2017 Xfinity Series schedule with a young but experienced group of drivers. Davis, owner of JD Motorsports with Gary Keller, one of the NASCAR garage's most established teams, announced Tuesday that Ross Chastain, Garrett Smithley and Rhodes will drive the team's Chevrolets in NASCAR's No. 2 series this season, JD Motorsports PR reports.
