Kirkwood found his groove amid the traffic Saturday morning, leading the pre-qualifying practice session for the Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach, IndyCar.com reports.

The driver of the No. 27 Andretti Global Honda turned in the best lap of the weekend on the challenging Long Beach street circuit. Kirkwood clocked a lap of 1:06.6874 which was good enough to beat out Colton Herta for fastest lap of the session. It was also a good improvement over his eighth-fastest lap of Friday's session. Kirkwood won this event one year ago and it loos like he has podium speed for Sunday's GP of Long Beach.
