Fit or Miss: Premier League Injury Tracker - Gameweek 23

With FA Cup matches dominating the weekend, the Premier League schedule picks up again Tuesday, highlighted by two big matches: the Merseyside derby at Anfield, and Manchester City visiting Tottenham.

But one other match that plenty of people will be paying attention to is Manchester United vs. Cardiff City, not only to see Juan Mata's debut for the Red Devils, but also to see if Wayne Rooney (groin) and/or Robin van Persie (thigh) can finally make it back on the pitch after sizable absences.

Here's everything else we're looking at heading into Gameweek 23:

Norwich City vs. Newcastle
Out:Elliott Bennett remains out with a knee injury and could miss the rest of the season. Jonathan Howson was already supposed to return from his back injury but he continues to sit out. Michael Turner can't get back to fitness from a hamstring injury. Fabricio Coloccini's Gael Bigirimana is out for a few weeks due to an ankle injury. Ryan Taylor (knee) tore his ACL last April, but is still not ready to return.

Swansea City vs. Fulham
Out:Jose Canas (ankle) is expected to return in mid-February. Michu (ankle) is still a few weeks away. Garry Monk (knee) remains out. Neil Etheridge has a hip injury, and Matthew Briggs' ankle injury continues to hold him out.
Not Expected to be Fit:Jonjo Shelvey is dealing with a hamstring injury suffered during last weekend's match against Tottenham. Fernando Amorebieta (knee) is likely another week away.
Expected to be Fit:Jonathan de Guzman (calf) and Nathan Dyer (ankle) both look set to return. Michel Vorm (knee) did not play in Saturday's FA Cup match against Birmingham City, but looks set to return to Premier League play.

Manchester United vs. Cardiff City
Out:Michael Carrick suffered an ankle injury in Wednesday's Capital One Cup match against Sunderland. Nani's hamstring injury continues to force him out. Andrew Taylor is out with an ankle injury.
Expected to be Fit:Wayne Rooney looks finally set to return from his groin injury. Marouane Fellaini (wrist) has returned to training and could feature. Rio Ferdinand could return to fitness following a knee injury. Robin van Persie (thigh) is nearing full fitness but there's no guarantee he'll return this week.

Southampton vs. Arsenal
Out:Dejan Lovren and Gaston Ramirez each face six-to-eight weeks on the sidelines after suffering ankle injuries in last weekend's match against Sunderland. Yaya Sanogo (back) has had his timetable for a return pushed back to February. Abou Diaby (knee) could miss the whole year, while Theo Walcott (knee) will definitely miss the rest of it.
Expected to be Fit:Victor Wanyama (leg) appears ready to return. Aaron Ramsey (thigh) looks finally ready to return after sitting out since suffering his injury on Boxing Day. Mikel Arteta (calf) and Thomas Vermaelen (knee) also look ready to make their way back.

Crystal Palace vs. Hull City
Out:Jonathan Parr had to be stretchered off during Saturday's FA Cup match against Wigan, and was immediately taken to the hospital for scans and X-rays on his head. Glenn Murray (knee) is looking to return next month. James Chester is out for up to eight weeks with a hamstring injury.
Not Expected to be Fit:Sone Aluko (Achilles), Robert Brady (groin), and Joe Dudgeon (knee) are all about a week away.
Expected to be Fit:Kagisho Dikgacoi (calf) wasn't able to play in Saturday's match, but could be ready by Tuesday. Jack Hunt (ankle) and Jerome Thomas (groin) are also expected back following long absences.

Liverpool vs. Everton
Out:Glen Johnson is out indefinitely after suffering an ankle injury. Lucas is out for two months with a knee injury. Jose Enrique continues to sit after having knee surgery in November. Daniel Agger remains sidelined with a calf injury. Seamus Coleman is out with a hamstring injury, but could return soon. Bryan Oviedo suffered a horrific double fracture in his leg during Saturday's FA Cup match against Stevenage and will miss the rest of the season. Ross Barkley is still out with a broken toe. Darron Gibson and Arouna Kone could both miss the rest of the season with knee injuries.
Not Expected to be Fit:Joe Allen picked up a knock and did not play in Saturday's FA Cup match against Bournemouth.
Expected to be Fit:Mamadou Sakho (hamstring) was supposed to return for Saturday's FA Cup match but was unable to play. Steven Pienaar could return from his hamstring injury. Gerard Deulofeu has been out since mid-December but looks set to return from a hamstring injury of his own. Antonlin Alcaraz is also expected back.

Tottenham vs. Manchester City
Out:Samir Nasri (knee) is out until March.
Not Expected to be Fit:Erik Lamela (thigh) could be ready in early February.
Expected to be Fit:Sandro (hamstring), Jan Vertonghen (ankle), Paulinho (ankle), Andros Townsend (hamstring) and Younes Kaboul (hip) are all expected back from their various injuries. David Silva has a slight hamstring issue, which kept him out of Saturday's FA Cup match against Watford, but should be able to return in time for Wednesday's match. Alvaro Negredo was held out of Saturday's match as well and there's a possibility he'll be given the day off to further rest his injured shoulder with Edin Dzeko and Sergio Aguero playing well lately.

Sunderland vs. Stoke City
Out:Carlos Cuellar (hip) could return in a few weeks, while Keiren Westwood (shoulder) remains without a firm timetable for return. Matthew Etherington is sidelined with a calf injury. Andy Wilkinson is likely another two weeks away from returning from a heel injury.
Not Expected to be Fit:Robert Huth (knee) could return next week.

Chelsea vs. West Ham
Out:Fernando Torres is out for at least three weeks with ligament damage in his knee. Marco van Ginkel could miss the entire season with his knee injury. Mohamed Diame had to be stretchered off with a knee injury in last Tuesday's Capital One Cup match against Manchester City. Joe Cole left Tuesday's match with a groin injury. Winston Reid is likely two weeks away.
Not Expected to be Fit:George McCartney could be returning soon from his neck injury. Ricardo Vaz Te (shoulder) played 60 minutes of a behind-closed-doors friendly with Tottenham on Thursday, but isn't expected to return against Chelsea.
Expected to be Fit:Guy Demel looks ready to return from his concussion, while Joey O'Brien's knock is behind him.

Aston Villa vs. West Brom
Out:Libor Kozak could miss the entire season after suffering a broken leg in training earlier this month. Jores Okore (knee) will return late this season, whereas Charles N'Zogbia (Achilles) may not be able to get fit before the season concludes.
Not Expected to be Fit:Gareth McAuley is struggling with a hamstring injury.
Expected to be Fit:Nathan Baker appears ready to return from a mild concussion. Chris Herd is due back from his hamstring injury, while Joseph Bennett could return from his back issues. Goran Popov looks set to return to fitness following a neck injury.
Late Fitness Test:Gabriel Agbonlahor (foot)
