FPL Gameweek 4 Rankings: Best Players & Captain Picks

Chelsea have the standout fixture of FPL Gameweek 4, hosting newly-promoted Hull City with three of the top six players in my projected rankings. Cole Palmer leads the entire slate, while Joao Pedro also sits ahead of Erling Haaland, who has the much tougher Manchester derby at Old Trafford. Liverpool's home matchup against Fulham is another spot to target, with Alexander Isak and multiple Liverpool midfielders near the top of the board.

These are my FPL GW4 rankings, best players and captain picks based on projected points, expected minutes, predicted lineups, fixture difficulty, role and price. Use the rankings below to compare transfer targets, starting decisions and captain options across every position.

FPL GW4 Captain Picks

Captaincy is much more open in Gameweek 4, with Chelsea's home matchup against Hull pushing two of their attackers ahead of Haaland in my projected rankings.

Joao Pedro (Chelsea, vs Hull City): Joao Pedro, Cole Palmer and Morgan Rogers are all possibilities for a home match against Hull City. Chelsea have an EFL Cup match Wednesday, but that shouldn't change their XI in this spot. Pedro has the highest goal upside and will be a popular captain due to his ownership.

Alexander Isak (Liverpool, vs Fulham): Liverpool are the other team I want exposure to this week. Isak and Liverpool get Fulham at Anfield, putting him firmly in the captaincy conversation if you want to move away from Chelsea. Fulham have been bad defensively and Liverpool expect to score multiple goals. Dominik Szoboszlai is also in the conversation.

Erling Haaland still sits pretty high in the rankings, but a trip to Manchester United makes this one of the rare weeks where the model doesn't automatically push him to the top of the captaincy list.

FPL GW4 Best Players by Position

A quick read on who to build around before the table.

Forwards: Joao Pedro and Alexander Isak sit above most due to their matchups while also playing at home. Kai Havertz, Nicolas Jackson and Omar Marmoush round out several interesting lower-owned alternatives.
Midfielders: Cole Palmer and Morgan Rogers stand out for Chelsea, while Bruno Fernandes ranks high as usual though a game against Man City isn't one to target. Liverpool players could be most popular given their matchup against Fulham. Cody Gakpo remains an interesting play if he continues to start.
Defenders: Maxim De Cuyper is the standout value defender again, ranking top 10 at just £4.7 million ahead of Brighton's trip to Coventry. Gabriel is the next defender on the board, though Arsenal's trip to Sunderland isn't quite as attractive as Brighton's matchup.
Goalkeepers: David Raya is near the top of the charts like always. Otherwise it's a tougher week for goalkeepers with Emiliano Martinez the only one close by due to a home game against Hull City.

Final Thoughts

Chelsea are the team I want to prioritize in Gameweek 4. Palmer and Joao Pedro rank near the top overall, while Morgan Rogers also lands inside the top 10, giving Chelsea the strongest collection of projected options in a home matchup against Hull.

Liverpool are the other obvious team to target, with Isak, Szoboszlai and Gakpo all inside the overall top nine against Fulham. Haaland remains an elite option despite the Manchester derby, but this is one of the few weeks where the combination of matchup and projection makes it reasonable to captain someone else.

Chelsea players are my preferred GW4 captains, but Liverpool players aren't far behind. De Cuyper also stands out as one of the week's best values at £4.7 million, while Diego Gomez at £5.0 million is another cheaper player worth noticing in Brighton's trip to Coventry.

Check the latest predicted lineups and injury news before the deadline, since changes in expected minutes can quickly move these rankings.
