The Armband: FPL Gameweek 6 Captaincy Analysis

This article is part of our The Armband series.

What do any of us really know anyway?

Nacer Chadli, who had three goals and two assists all of last season, led Gameweek 5 with a brace and two assists. As a bonus, he had to leave early and only made it 74 minutes. If you captained him, congrats.

For my sake, at least everyone I ranked last week had a goal or assist. Wait…

Dangit, Eden Hazard.

But maybe the biggest revelation last weekend was that of Islam Slimani, who fit right into the Leicester front line and scored twice in their 3-0 win. Much cheaper than teammate Jamie Vardy (who has two goals all season), Slimani will be getting a lot of attention this week.

And for the 70 percent of owners that still don't have Etienne Capoue: are you even trying?

For Gameweek 6, there are a couple matches that will have most viewers' attention.

Once sitting pretty with nine points in three matches, Manchester United have returned to last year's levels, most recently falling to Watford. But they return home this weekend (vs. Leicester) where Zlatan Ibrahimovic thrives. The Foxes did just record a clean sheet, but on the road, they have allowed six goals in two matches.

Elsewhere, Arsenal, who are suddenly even with Chelsea in the table, host the Blues. Both sides haven't looked all too comfortable on the back line through the first five matches, and it's hard to see either looking great here. There's no denying Alexis Sanchez right now, who is coming off a brace at Hull City. But other than him, it's hit-or-miss in the Gunners midfield.

As for Chelsea, it's simply Diego Costa, who already has five goals and an assist in the first five matches. And at this point, it's best to ignore Hazard.

Romelu Lukaku will be on plenty of radars at Bournemouth. While the Cherries gave up four goals last match, they haven't been as bad at home so it may be best to consider other options than Lukaku. Then again, I'm probably overthinking this.

Liverpool are an interesting side to consider, but as said last week, there is no consistency in the squad. Jordan Henderson picked up his first goal of the season last match (watch it), and it's worth nothing that Hull have allowed only one goal on the road so far. Here's Hendo's strike:

Manchester City are at Swansea and that should mean plenty of good things. The Swans continue to struggle while City are the opposite. Of course, this will be the second time the clubs meet in a matter of four days, so maybe that could give Swansea a head start on preparations. Unfortunately, they can't prepare against Sergio Aguero, who will serve his final game of suspension in midweek and will return for Saturday's meeting. In case you've forgotten, Aguero is the best.

Raheem Sterling or even Ilkay Gundogan.

And then there's Watford, who are scoring for fun, which is something I never thought I'd say. They travel to Burnley for a Monday night match. Since Watford is involved, it should include goals, but the Clarets have actually played solid defense at home this season. They already held Liverpool scoreless and have allowed just two total in three home matches.

Maybe the matchup to look at involves West Ham, who have allowed 11 goals in their last three matches. The problem is that Southampton have scored just once in two road games so far. Either way, I'll continue to back Dusan Tadic to score, with Dimitri Payet being a popular option on the other side.

With the League Cup in full swing this week, it's important to keep an eye on the lineups. But in most cases, it shouldn't be too big a factor unless injuries accrue.
