The Armband: FPL Gameweek 7 Captain Rankings

This article is part of our The Armband series.

It's usually a good thing when there's only one major qualm about a given gameweek. Gabriel Jesus, who had four goals in the previous three matches, failed to appear for Man City in a 5-0 win against Crystal Palace, and so the 10.9 percent (that number was likely higher a week ago) of fantasy owners that roster him weren't happy.

Outside of him, you almost couldn't go wrong with your captain pick. Alvaro Morata led the weekend with a hat trick, while Alexandre Lacazette wasn't far behind and now has four goals in three home matches. Harry Kane proved that he's a better value on the road and Sergio Aguero continued his prowess with at least one goal and assist in each of the last three league matches. And not to be forgotten, the man that's on more than 50 percent of fantasy Premier League squads, Romelu Lukaku tallied his sixth goal of the season.

Believe it or not, but Gameweek 7 looks similarly straightforward in terms of who to give the armband to. Spurs are at Huddersfield, Man United host Crystal Palace and Arsenal welcome Brighton to the Emirates. If you turn elsewhere for your fantasy captain, you're only bringing risk into the squad.

Morata could also be considered at home against Man City, but giving the armband to someone that is playing a side that has allowed two goals in their last seven matches in all competitions (all wins) is not usually a good strategy. On the other end with Aguero and Jesus, it's never a good idea to captain someone away to Chelsea.

The biggest thing for captain will be deciding between the top options, with Lukaku and Kane first in line. Kane is coming off a hat trick at APOEL on Tuesday and has scored four goals in his last two away league matches. It'll be hard to argue against him, except that Huddersfield have allowed just one goal in three home games this season. Of course, the attacking lines of Newcastle, Southampton and Leicester can't be compared to that of Tottenham. But the biggest thing for Kane may be to get Christian Eriksen back in the squad after an illness. As long as Eriksen is healthy by Friday, he's also in the conversation with 12 shots and 11 chances created in the last four league matches.

As for Lukaku, his scoring record speaks for itself, finding the back of the net in all but one Premier League game this season. Even better is that he draws a Crystal Palace team that still hasn't recorded a point and sits last in the table. Rolling with a defender like Phil Jones or Antonio Valencia wouldn't be a terrible idea, either.

Yet with most eyes on those teams, Arsenal could be forgotten about, similar to last weekend. The Gunners welcomed back Alexis Sanchez into the squad, and while he didn't make the score sheet, he took four shots, created two chances and had three crosses. If the Gunners score, it's likely either Lacazette or Alexis will be involved. For the risk-averse, this looks like a fourth straight clean sheet as Brighton have just one goal from their last four away matches (in all competitions). Nacho Monreal has a bonus point in each of the last three matches, while Hector Bellerin grabbed a couple last time out, so those two would be good places to turn.

As for the differentials, Joshua King is in a good spot to keep scoring as Leicester are bad on the road (seven goals allowed in three road matches). Chicharito is in a good spot to find the back of the net going against a Swansea side still searching for its identity. There's no telling what Everton will do after almost losing to Bournemouth at Goodison Park last weekend. Some will look toward Liverpool with Sadio Mane back in the lineup, but it's difficult to trust the Reds on the road, as seen in their 1-1 draw at Spartak Moscow on Tuesday. Mane, Philippe Coutinho and Roberto Firmino will be looked at, but I have little confidence in them against a solid Newcastle back line.
