Second-round action continues Thursday from the hard courts of New York City's USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center. A pair of top-five seeds will have to tread carefully against talented opponents who have fallen off recently but peaked in the top 10, while an unheralded American looks to add to his recent Grand Slam success.

All men's singles matches at Grand Slams such as the US Open are best of five sets, while women's singles matches are best of three sets. A mix of players' previous hard court results, recent form and stylistic matchups can help pinpoint intriguing betting opportunities, both among favorites likely to cruise to victory and underdogs ready to pull off upsets. The aforementioned underdogs are highlighted in the Upset Alert section, the Lock It In section covers players who can safely be viewed as favorites, while the Value Bets section recommends enticing options in matchups that are considered closer to toss-ups.
US Open Tennis Picks: Upset Alert
Karen Khachanov (+215) vs. Felix Auger-Aliassime
Khachanov has dropped to 50th in the rankings in what has been a down year, but the 30-year-old Russian had been a top-20 mainstay the past few years, and he can swing freely in this match with all the pressure on the third-seeded Auger-Aliassime. Their head-to-head is tied 2-2 overall and 1-1 on hard courts. FAA has had more than his fair share of early Grand Slam exits, losing in the first or second round in 11 of the previous 17 majors.
Paula Badosa (+540) vs. Coco Gauff
Badosa has struggled to stay healthy in recent years, and she's currently 85 spots back of her career-high No. 2 ranking from 2022, but the 28-year-old Spaniard can still produce high-level tennis, as Badosa has demonstrated in recent matchups against Gauff. Badosa won their last two encounters, at the 2025 Australian Open and in June of this year on the grass courts of Berlin, to establish a 5-3 head-to-head edge over Gauff. The fourth-seeded American is riding a seven-match winning streak after Gauff's recent title in Cincinnati, but Badosa's previous success when these two have faced off suggests the underdog has a better chance of pulling off the upset here than her long odds indicate.
Honorable Mention
Harriet Dart (+405) vs. Marie Bouzkova
US Open Tennis Odds: Lock It In
Elise Mertens (-307) vs. Maria Timofeeva
Few players have a higher floor than Mertens, who has lifted herself back into the top 20 in the rankings with a 28-17 record this year. Mertens lost prior to the third round only seven times in her last 34 Grand Slam appearances and just once in the preceding eight US Opens. The 30-year-old Belgain continues to play effective tennis, having reached the quarterfinals of Wimbledon this year. She's likely to take care of business against the 86th-ranked Timofeeva, who hasn't been ranked higher than No. 79 in her career. This is the first time that the 22-year-old Timofeeva has managed to reach the US Open main draw, having lost in qualifying each of the previous three years.
Naomi Osaka (-366) vs. Katerina Siniakova
Osaka had to shake off some rust in her opening-round win over Anastasia Zakharova, but the 2025 US Open semifinalist ultimately got through without dropping a set to improve her record this year to 26-10. Osaka's ability to earn free points with her serve and superior power should help her control play against the doubles specialist Siniakova, who came into this tournament with a .500 record this year in singles. Osaka has won two of their previous three encounters, with Siniakova's lone triumph coming on clay, where Osaka's edge in power was neutralized by slow court conditions.
Honorable Mention
Alexander Zverev (-650) vs. Quentin Halys
US Open Tennis Predictions: Value Bets
Zachary Svajda (-137) vs. Arthur Gea
Svajda is 6-2 in Grand Slam matches since the start of the French Open, having lost to Flavio Cobolli in the Round of 16 at Roland Garros and Alex de Minaur in the third round of Wimbledon. The 23-year-old American has won all six of his Grand Slam matches against opponents ranked outside the top 15 during that span, and Gea is far outside that range at No. 87, which is seven spots below Svajda. Gea got into this draw as a lucky loser after a loss in qualifying, and the 21-year-old Frenchman has never advanced past the second round at a Grand Slam.
Ignacio Buse (-147) vs. Benjamin Bonzi
Buse has built up a six-match winning streak, as he captured the title at the Winston-Salem Open in the week leading up to the U.S. Open before knocking off American Marcos Giron in a five-set first-round matchup here. Buse defeated Bonzi in the semifinals at Winston-Salem, and this rematch should play out similarly in favor of the 22-year-old from Peru, who has a 67-spot edge in the rankings at No. 30.
Honorable Mention
Yunchaokete Bu (+151) vs. Michael Zheng
