ANALYSIS
Jagielo split time between Double-A Pensacola and Triple-A Louisville last season, hitting a combined .204/.323/.291 across 103 games. The 2013 first-round pick has yet to reach the majors and will likely spend the year as organizational depth.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2016
2015
2014
Jagielo struggled through his first couple of professional seasons after being selected in the first round of the 2013 draft, but showed some signs of turning things around in 2015. A weak average hitter at High-A, the 23-year-old hit .284 at Double-A and showed a marked improvement against southpaws – he hit .239 against lefties in 2014 but upped that to .306 in 2015. His strikeout rate remained an issue, striking out 58 times in 58 games, but the biggest concern is his health. Jagielo missed time in 2014 with an oblique injury and had his season cut short once again in 2015, injuring his knee in mid-June, holding him out for the rest of the minor-league campaign as well as the Arizona Fall League. The Reds acquired Jagielo as part of the Aroldis Chapman deal with the Yankees in December, where his path to playing time at third base is less obstructed if he proves capable of handling the defensive rigors of the hot corner. Look for him to begin 2016 for his new organization at Triple-A Louisville.
Of the three Yankees prospects drafted in the first round of the 2013 draft (Aaron Judge and Ian Clarkin being the others), Jagielo has the least upside. A bat-first third baseman, Jagielo has shown above average power at each stop in the low minors. He posted a .201 ISO with 16 home runs in 359 plate appearances in a shortened season at High-A Tampa, as he missed almost two months with an oblique strain. However, there are a couple flags here. First, he slugged just .364 against lefties, compared to .498 against righties, signaling that he may not profile as an everyday player. In addition, while he has no problem taking a walk (10.6% walk rate), he also has a lot of swing-and-miss in his game, hitting just .259 despite a .315 BABIP and posting a 25.9% strikeout rate at Low-A. He will need to make improvements on both fronts to ever profile as an everyday third baseman in the majors.
Jagielo, one of the Yankees' first-round picks in the 2013 First-Year Player Draft, is a fairly polished college hitter with good power potential. He hit six homers in 218 at-bats for short-season Staten Island and seems likely to start 2014 with Low-A Charleston. Jagielo is a decent defender at third, though a move to left field or first base may come down the line. His major asset is his bat, and if he shows further development, he could only be another year or so away from grabbing a spot in the Yankees' lineup.
