2023 Fantasy Outlook
Romero showed off excellent zone-contact skill and more power than expected in his brief pro debut after the Red Sox selected him with the 24th overall pick and paid out an under-slot $2.3 million. A lefty-hitting prep shortstop from California, Romero displayed above-average raw power while hitting .304/.368/.506 with one home run, three triples, seven doubles, two steals and a 15:8 K:BB in 19 games across complex ball and Single-A. He may move to second base and isn't expected to be much of a threat on the bases by the time he reaches the majors, but Romero hinted at enough offensive upside to be a solid mid-to-late-round option in first-year player drafts.
