FanDuel MLB: Monday Value Plays

This article is part of our FanDuel MLB series.

PITCHER

Jon Niese, PIT at CIN, ($5,800): It's a tough night to find a pitcher at a nice value and Niese may be the only one. To be completely honest, it looks like paying up for Jon Lester (against the Padres) or Jose Fernandez (against the Brewers) is the smart choice in cash games. However, this price seems way too cheap for Niese. who has had an ERA under 4.00 in three of the last four seasons. The Reds, other than Joey Votto, Brandon Phillips and Jay Bruce, aren't too daunting and have the 12th worst wOBA (.310) against left-handed pitching this season.

CATCHER

Brian McCann, NYY vs. KAN, ($3,100): This price seems too cheap for a position that always seems thin and McCann can still rake. He's put up games of 9.5, 3.0, 22.7 and 12.2 fantasy points over his last four games, respectively, and he had a .371 wOBA at home last season against right-handed pitching. He now gets to face Chris Young, who who gave up a .320 wOBA to left-handed hitters last season, and Yankee Stadium plays very nicely for McCann.

FIRST BASE

Ben Paulsen, COL vs. ARI, ($2,900):This is a great value considering he'll be a left-handed hitter with a favorable right-handed split at home in Coors Field. Paulsen has seen inconsistent playing time this season, leading to the reduced price, but he should be in the lineup against Rubby De La Rosa. Last season at home, Paulsen sported a .361 wOBA against right-handed pitching.

SECOND BASE

Derek Dietrich, MIA vs. MIL, ($2,700): The suspension of Dee Gordon has made Dietrich a fixture in the lineup and he'll likely be leading off. The matchup against Wily Peralta is a plus and the closer and shorter fences at Marlins Park have made it much more hitter-friendly. Dietrich has crushed right-handed pitching this season, posting a .437 wOBA, and he has a 1.600 OPS in 15 at-bats against Peralta.

THIRD BASE

Justin Turner, LAD vs. NYM, ($2,800): The game logs look like this: 6.0, 21.9, 6.0, 15.2 and 12.2 over his last five. That being said, Turner has been a notoriously streaky hitter but he's legit, as he smoked left-handed pitching with a 448 wOBA last year.

SHORTSTOP

Troy Tulowitzki, TOR at SFG, ($2,900): This seems like a crazy price especially since we might be seeing the end of Jake Peavy. This reduced price is enough to take Tulowitzki but wait, he has gone 7-for-22 against Jake Peavy, good for a 1.014 OPS. On top of that, Peavy has a 9.00 ERA with 1.90 WHIP this year.

OUTFIELD

Adam Eaton, CHW at TEX, ($3,500): Pivoting off the Colorado game seems like a good idea in GPPs and looking to the White Sox and Rangers could be fruitful. Eaton has been solid to start this season with a .323 wOBA against right-handed pitching after posting a .367 wOBA last season. He's always a threat to swipe a base (four stolen bases this season, 20 last year) adding to his fantasy value. Colby Lewis has given up a .421 wOBA to lefties at home this season and has historically struggled in Texas to left-handed batters.

Mitch Moreland, TEX vs CHW, ($3,300): The good news for White Sox fans is that they have aces on their pitching staff like Chris Sale and Jose Quintana, but they also have holes in the back of their rotation. Miguel Gonzalez is one of those holes and he'll get the tough task of making a start in Arlington. This game has an over/under of either nine or 9.5 runs, depending on where you check, suggesting there's going to be runs scored in ballparks other than Coors Field. Moreland had a .350 wOBA at home against right-handed pitching last season and it helps that Gonzalez had a .357 wOBA to lefties last year.

Josh Reddick, OAK at BOS, ($3,000): Reddick has a lot working in his favor, including the revenge narrative heading back to Boston. He's also swinging a hot bat with games of 18.7, 15.5, 15.5 and 15.4 fantasy points over his last four games. Clay Buchholz has been less than stellar this season, giving up a .407 wOBA to left-handed hitters and his 5.71 ERA is in line with his 1.41 WHIP. Reddick should have no problem keeping his hot streak going.
