Closer Watch

Cincinnati Reds - With Aroldis Chapman unavailable Sunday due to pitching three consecutive days, Jonathan Broxton worked around a hit and two walks over a third of an inning against the Braves to earn his seventh save of the season. Chapman is in no danger of losing his job as the Reds' closer.

Oakland Athletics - See Monday's Recommended Pickup below.

San Diego Padres - Joaquin Benoit had not pitched since August 13 due to a "cranky" shoulder, but he struck out a batter in a perfect frame Sunday against Arizona to earn his eighth save of the season. Now that he's healthy, he's expected to see the majority of the Padres' save chances for the remainder of the season.

Tampa Bay Rays - Brad Boxberger earned his second save of the season Sunday, scattering two hits while striking out a batter in a scoreless frame against the Blue Jays. Jake McGee tossed two scoreless innings ahead of Boxberger, striking out two before earning his fourth win of the season after the game went to extra innings. Despite manager Joe Madden's use of Boxberger on Sunday, McGee is expected to see the majority of save chances for the Rays moving forward.

Recommended Pickup

Luke Gregerson, P, OAK - The A's placed Sean Doolittle (oblique) on the 15-day disabled list Sunday, and while the team has not announced how much time he's expected to miss with the setback, he's likely to be given as much as needed to get back to full strength by the postseason. No announcement about Doolittle's replacement has been made, but Gregerson is the favorite to take over the closer's role with three saves, a 2.17 ERA, 0.98 WHIP and 48:12 K:BB in 58 innings for Oakland this season.

Other Recent Recommendations: Oswaldo Arcia, Jeremy Hellickson, Jon Jay, Tsuyoshi Wada and Carlos Carrasco.
