FanDuel MLB: Monday Value Plays

This article is part of our FanDuel MLB series.

Pitchers

J.A. Happ, $7,300 - One of the more "under-the-radar" acquisitions this season, Happ has been an outstanding addition to the Pirates rotation. He's been a fantasy monster posting double-digit FanDuel points in eight straight starts and has won six of his last seven. At first glance a matchup with the Cardinals may not seem ideal but a closer look shows it is. St. Louis is 26th in the league against left-handed pitching with a .668 OPS and lefty-killer Johnny Peralta has cooled off over the second half. Take advantage of this cheap price that makes Happ the 13th highest priced pitcher for tonight's slate.

Catcher

Yan Gomes, $2,400 - Gomes is in a nice spot tonight, coming into the game on a hot streak and having some success against Phil Hughes. Over the last six games Gomes has games over 3.5, 4.5, 4.5 and 5.5 fantasy points including a home run Saturday. In a limited sample he's gone 4-for-11 against Hughes with two doubles. Gomes' OPS is also 110 points higher at home, helping his case to use him tonight at Progressive Field.

First Base

Chris Carter, $2,500 - A notoriously streaky hitter, Carter is in the middle of another hot spell over the last week. He has a home run in each of his last four games started and like many of the other Astros, feasts on left-handed pitching. He gets Roenis Elias tonight up in Seattle and should be hitting in the middle of the order in a decent RBI spot. Using a stack of Astros against Elias would make for a good GPP play.

Second Base

Jason Kipnis, $2,900 - This price is much cheaper than what Kipnis was listed at earlier this season and his time on the DL may be the reason why it has dropped. The great part of using Kipnis is that he rarely puts up a game of negative fantasy points. Again, the Indians are going against Phil Hughes and his fly ball tendencies, putting the Tribe's lineup in a good spot tonight.

Third Base

Alex Rodriguez, $3,000 - Despite being on the wrong side of 40 Rodriguez has shown he still has a lot of baseball left in him. He'll be back in the lineup tonight after getting just one at-bat as a pinch-hitter Sunday and should be in his usual three-spot. He's hit southpaws to the tune of a .949 OPS this season and has gone 4-for-9 against Eduardo Rodriguez with a home run and a double. It's also a home game for him, a place he's hit much better at than on the road.

Shortstop

Carlos Correa, $3,700 - This is wearing the Captain Obvious hat as Correa is probably the best fantasy player at the position right now. To write about a cheaper option would have been a forced option and there's enough other players highlighted at a discount that fitting in Correa shouldn't be a problem. He has performances of 10.75 and 15.75 fantasy points in two of his last six games and like Carter has been better against lefties. His OPS versus southpaws sits at .969 and his OPS is 79 points higher over the second half of the season, showing he's improving at the plate.

Outfield

Chris Young, $2,400 - Like ARod, Young has been mashing left-handed pitching all season and benefits from the friendly confines of Yankee Stadium. He has a .953 against lefties this season and should be in one of the spots right after cleanup, a good place to drive in runs. The price is extremely cheap here for Young and it allows you to pay up for the other positions.

Mitch Moreland, $3,100 - Moreland has had some big fantasy game this season for DFS players and comes into tonight's game with a 1.015 OPS over the last week. Not surprisingly, he's hit right-handed pitching better this season (.903) OPS and oddly has gotten the better of Justin Verlander for his career. Moreland has a .956 OPS against Verlander in 20 plate appearances and will likely be a low-owned option when owners see that Verlander is the opposing pitcher.

J.D. Martinez, $3,400 - It seems like Martinez should be priced much higher than this given what he's done this season and there are 15 players priced higher than him for tonight's games. He gets a move to a more favorable hitter's park in Arlington and has had some success in limited at-bats against Colby Lewis. Martinez has gone 3-for-6 against the big righty with two of those hits being a double and a home run. He's an elite outfield bat at a middle-of-the-road price tonight.
