FanDuel MLB: Friday Value Plays

This article is part of our FanDuel MLB series.

PITCHER

Patrick Corbin, ARI at SF, ($6,500): There are a lot of cheap options and Chris Sale ($11,000) at home against the Braves looks like a dream matchup. However, Corbin come in at least $4,200 cheaper than the top six pitchers on the board and should be playing in a low-scoring game. The over/under started at 7.5 with San Francisco being a moderate favorite. Corbin has pitched much better than this price scoring 25, minus-2 (at Coors Field, so he gets a mulligan), 34, 31, 25 and 42 fantasy points over his last six games. The Giants have the eighth-worst ISO (.147) against lefties and Corbin has a 3.46 ERA on the road as opposed to a 6.60 mark at home.

CATCHER

Derek Norris, SD at LAD ($2,600): This is a really good price for Norris, who has gotten the reputation as being a lefty-killer and went 2-for-2 with two walks Thursday night. He'll get Scott Kazmir tonight and should be in the middle of the lineup, a good place for RBI opportunity. Norris has a .310 wOBA this season against southpaws (not bad for a catcher) but his career .361 wOBA suggest he should improve over the rest of the season.

FIRST BASE

Adrian Gonzalez, LAD vs SD ($3,300): Gonzalez has caught a bit of a hot streak with a 1.038 OPS over the last week and gets a favorable matchup against Andrew Cashner. For his career, Cashner has struggled more against left-handed batters and away from home, both of which will be the case against Gonzalez on Friday. Gonzalez has also crushed Cashner in the past going 11-for-32 (.344) with four home runs leading to a 1.182 OPS.

SECOND BASE

Jurickson Profar, TEX vs MIN ($2,800): There are going to be some high over/unders in Arlington going forward as the hottest part of the summer comes around. The line for Friday's game opened at 9.5 with an implied run total for Texas being at least five. Profar hit in the fifth spot Thursday night and has moved all around the lineup. No matter where he hits, this is a good matchup with a .437 wOBA at home and against Kyle Gibson who has a road wOBA of .355.

THIRD BASE

Chase Headley, NYY at CLE ($2,100): This seems like a good spot to punt considering Headley's price and Anthony Rendon's ($2,200) even though both have tough matchups. Headley has finally come around at the plate and has a .991 OPS over the last week, including a .391 OBP. Meanwhile, opposing starter Corey Kluber has allowed a .325 wOBA against left-handed hitters this season and Headley has hit right-handed pitchers better this year.

SHORTSTOP

Javier Baez, CHI at PIT, ($2,500): At first glance, fading Francisco Liriano seems like a bad idea but his stats say otherwise, as he has struggled against right-handed hitters like Baez, giving up a .367 wOBA this season. In addition to having an .847 OPS over the last two weeks, Baez has quietly swiped six bags this season as well. Teammate Kris Bryant ($3,600, .416 wOBA against lefties) is in play as well with two good pitchers going against each other in Coors Field.

OUTFIELD

George Springer, HOU vs OAK ($3,100): This seems like an insanely low price for Springer, who has done nothing but rake, especially in the leadoff position. His OPS is 60 points higher batting leadoff (.876), and over the last two weeks he has a 1.054 OPS with a nifty 11:10 K:BB ratio. Springer has a nice floor as well, scoring positive fantasy points in 36 of his last 37 games, including at least 12.2 fantasy points in seven of his last 10.

Justin Upton, DET at TOR ($3,100): There are so many good bats in the Detroit lineup it's not hard to see why Upton gets overlooked in DFS at times. He's off to a disappointing start with only nine home runs but has looked much better at the plate since June 1. There are three factors working in his favor tonight: 1. he's playing in Toronto 2. he hit a home run in his first at-bat Thursday night that may be a good sign for tonight 3. he's had success against J.A. Happ, going 4-for-6 with two home runs, a double and two walks.

Brandon Drury, ARI at SF ($2,200): The only explanation for the low cost for Drury is that he was banged up last month and was a regular starter. He's back in the lineup and has gone 6-for-18 with four doubles and a home run over his four starts. Jeff Samardzija isn't having quite the season the Giants' brass had hoped with a 6.43 ERA over his last six starts, and he's struggled more at AT&T Park than on the road.
