FanDuel MLB: Tuesday Value Plays

FanDuel MLB: Tuesday Value Plays

This article is part of our FanDuel MLB series.

Pitcher

Archie Bradley, ARI at SDP ($6,400): Bradley has been all over the map in terms of the caliber of his performances this season, even against this same Padres squad. He completely stymied them in their first meeting, tallying 52 fantasy points on the strength of nine strikeouts over 7.1 innings on May 29. He then generated 24 fantasy points in a solid six-inning effort on July 4, but lasted only 4.2 innings against them on Aug. 18 in an eight-point outing. However, save for a disaster against the Giants two starts ago, Bradley has started to even things out a bit, having scored between 27 and 42 fantasy points in his four other starts since Aug. 23 while hitting the high end of that range twice. The Padres also check in with a .291 wOBA and 24.8 percent strikeout rate against right-handed pitching that both rank as the lowest in the majors, and have the fourth-lowest home wOBA (.302) in baseball this season as well.

Catcher

Salvador Perez, KAN at CLE ($3,000): Perez has a highly favorable history (14-for-23 with a home run and seven doubles) against Indians starter Josh Tomlin, and also checks in with a solid 36.8 percent hard contact rate against right-handed pitching on the road this season. Recent struggles have brought his price down to an affordable level, making him a cost-effective tournament option against the Cleveland righty, who's been battered at home this season by right-handed bats to the tune of a .420 wOBA, 3.05 HR/9, 13 homers and a whopping .639 slugging percentage.

First Base

Tommy Joseph, PHI vs. CWS ($2,300): Joseph brings plenty of upside, particularly against White Sox starter James Shields, who's given up an astounding 37 homers on the season with 23 of those coming off right-handed bats. He's yielded a .394 wOBA to righty hitters as well, along with a 2.36 HR/9, 20.2 percent HR/FB rate and 40 percent hard contact rate. Joseph's bat has been heating up, with a five-game hitting streak and double-digit fantasy points in three of those contests. He's also blasted 14 of his 20 homers on the season against righties and boasts a .332 wOBA, .251 ISO and 38 percent hard contact rate versus that handedness, and a .308 average, .403 wOBA and .282 ISO over his last 15 games.

Second Base

Whit Merrifield, KAN at CLE ($2,900): Merrifield is currently riding a four-game hitting streak, with double-digit fantasy points in all of those contests. He makes for another appealing, cost-conscious option against Tomlin, whose problems with right-handed hitters at home were detailed earlier. Merrifield checks in with a .351 average and .367 wOBA over his last 15 games, along with a 39.1 percent hard contact rate.

Third Base

Adrian Beltre, TEX vs. LAA, ($3,000): Beltre is right back in play Tuesday against rookie Angels starter Daniel Wright, who's yielded a .421 wOBA to right-handed hitters overall and a .465 wOBA when facing them on the road. He's also generated a 6.30 ERA and .371 wOBA over his last two starts, while Beltre has a .382 wOBA at Globe Life Park as well as a .352 wOBA against right-handed pitching there. He's also wielding a hot bat in September, with a .343 average, five homers and a .426 wOBA in his 17 games this month.

Shortstop

Dansby Swanson, ATL at NYM ($3,100): Swanson has gotten his major league career off to a momentous start and has hits in five of his last six games, along with double-digit fantasy points in his last two. He's also excelled against right-handed pitching to date, with a .314 average over a 96-plate appearance sample. Furthermore, he's on a two week-plus hot streak at the moment, with a .327 average and .363 wOBA over his last 15 games.

Outfield

Cameron Maybin, DET at MIN ($3,200): Maybin faces off with the erratic Hector Santiago, who's given up a combined .373 wOBA between his two home parks this season to right-handed hitters. Maybin sports a .334 wOBA against southpaws along with a 31 percent hard contact rate against them on the road.

Yasmany Tomas, ARI at SDP ($2,600): Tomas keeps standing out as a value play at his stagnant price, particularly against Padres starter Paul Clemens, who's given up a .448 wOBA, six homers and a .635 slugging percentage to right-handed hitters at Petco Park this season along with a 2.70 HR/9 and 22.2 percent HR/FB rate. While Tomas has been particularly lethal against lefties, his body of work against right-handers includes a robust 40.6 percent hard contact rate and 19.8 percent HR/FB rate. He's also posted a .329 average, .356 wOBA and 40.4 percent hard contact rate over his last 17 games, furthering his case as a bargain bat with plenty of upside.

Nick Markakis, ATL at NYM ($2,900): Markakis checks in Tuesday with a .349 wOBA and 34.1 percent hard contact rate against right-handed pitching on the road, along with a .313 average and a .372 wOBA over his last 17 games. He's also riding an 11-game hitting streak, making him a highly viable option against Mets rookie starter Robert Gsellman, who's given up a .325 wOBA to lefty bats that shoots up to .369 when facing them at Citi Field.
