Yahoo DFS Baseball: Monday Picks

This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Baseball series.

PITCHER

Kyle Hendricks, CHC at SD ($43): It seems logical to grab Carlos Carrasco ($52), but he's struggled his last couple of outings. As for Hendricks, he remains consistent, although without the high strikeout numbers. He has gone at least six innings in five of his last six starts and is averaging at least five strikeouts in that period. Plus, it's always a good idea to go against the Padres, who have a .291 wOBA and 25.6 percent K rate against righties.

Tyler Chatwood, COL vs. SEA ($28): This is a bit risky as this game is at Coors Field, but Chatwood has been rolling, so the hope is that his momentum continues after allowing just one hit in seven innings in his last start. He gets a mediocre Mariners team that is middle of the pack with a .322 wOBA against righties.

CATCHER

Yan Gomes, CLE vs. OAK ($11): His price doesn't show it, but Gomes has been a much different player for the last month and a half. Since mid-April, Gomes has a .392 wOBA and 17.9 percent K rate against righties, which are both much better than his numbers on the season (.282, 24.7). Going against Daniel Mengden, who's making his first start of the season Monday, could prove beneficial, as well.

FIRST BASE

Lucas Duda, NYM vs. MIL ($16): Duda's numbers for the season are fine with a .388 wOBA against righties, but that jumps to .448 in his last 55 plate appearances. He's been feeling it with 10 hits in his last six games and Matt Garza has struggled against lefties, allowing a .374 wOBA and 5.57 xFIP.

SECOND BASE

Whit Merrifield, KC vs. DET ($11): As a cheap second baseman, Merrifield is in a good spot with a stout .388 wOBA and small 13.5 percent K rate against lefties. Daniel Norris is coming off one of his better outings, but he's been far from consistent throughout his career and has gone six innings just twice in his last seven starts. To go with that, Norris isn't striking out as many righties with a low 18.8 percent K rate, which means Merrifield should at least find contact.

THIRD BASE

Manny Machado, BAL vs. NYY ($18): Machado isn't having a great season, but still has a .345 wOBA and .264 ISO against lefties and those numbers jumped a few points in the last month (.356, .275). Jordan Montgomery was great in his last start, although it came against the lowly Royals. He still has a 4.66 xFIP against righties and gave up nine runs in his prior two starts before allowing one in his last outing.

SHORTSTOP

Aledmys Diaz, STL vs. LAD ($12): Another player on the cheaper end, Diaz is in a nice spot against Rich Hill, who is coming off an outing in which he walked seven guys (and he hasn't made it more than five innings in any of his last four starts). Diaz has far from amazing numbers, but has hit safely in 10 of his last 11 games.

OUTFIELD

Aaron Hicks, NYY at BAL ($15): While the rest of the Yankees are pretty pricey, Hicks isn't at a bad price in a plus matchup. Hicks has a .435 wOBA and 15.7 percent K rate against righties and while Dylan Bundy has been solid, his 5.12 xFIP against lefties doesn't show that. After his great start to the year, Bundy has given up at least two runs in each of his last six starts.

Michael Brantley, CLE vs. OAK ($16): Brantley isn't the type of batter you want to see when making your season debut, which Mengden is. Brantley has a .389 wOBA and 14.0 percent K rate on the season against righties, but has pumped those numbers to .417 and 10.6 percent in his last 85 plate appearances.

Jose Bautista, TOR vs. CIN ($22): I'll close with a righty-righty matchup that Bautista has thrived in this season, as seen in his .368 wOBA and .230 ISO. Lisalverto Bonilla has some fine starts, but has allowed at least three runs in every outing this season and has just 10 strikeouts in his last three.
