DraftKings MLB: Monday Picks

This article is part of our DraftKings MLB series.

Pitcher

Jacob deGrom, NYM vs. CHC ($10,200): DeGrom hasn't thrown the ball like a five-figure asset of late, but he still carries a 15 percent swinging strike rate over 72 innings. The Cubs strike out more than 22 percent of the time against righty pitchers and hold the fourth lowest RAA in the league against the slider, a pitch deGrom throws 25 percent of the time. Chicago appears to have largely maintained its reputation as having a dominant offense despite entering the contest with a bottom-10 wOBA against righties, which may give us some undue scarcity in what appears to be a solid matchup.

Kyle Freeland, COL at PIT ($8,100):Stephen Strasburg may be the best option left on the board, but this wouldn't be much of an advice column if I simply recommended the two most expensive pitchers, so let's talk a bit about Freeland's upside. The rookie southpaw has tallied an 8.8 RAA with his fastball over 12 starts, while notching a groundball rate of 58 percent over that span. The Pirates are a bottom-10 team against lefties, and hit the ball on the ground at a 47 percent clip.

Catcher

Mike Zunino, SEA at MIN ($3,900): Zunino has tallied a 38 percent hard contact rate against left-handed pitching this season to go along with a 13 percent walk rate over 27 at-bats. Adalberto Mejia has surrendered a 2.0 HR/9 rate against both sides of the platoon, and has kept a 13 percent walk rate against his opposite hand, contributing to a 5.30 xFIP.

First Base

Mitch Moreland, BOS vs. PHI ($4,500): Opposing starter Jerad Eickhoff has allowed a .507 slugging percentage to lefty batters over 36.2 innings this season. Eickhoff likes to lean on his curveball, but he may not be able to rely on the pitch against Moreland, who has logged a 2.4 RAA versus the bender.

Second Base

Jose Pirela, SD vs. CIN ($2,300): Pirela has gone on a tear since being called up from Triple-A El Paso, collecting two homers and three doubles across 25 at-bats. He will enter the contest against the Reds having amassed a .909 slugging percentage. Arroyo throws one of the least effective fastballs in the league according to RAA (-18.5), and has allowed a .564 slugging percentage against right-handed batters.

Third Base

Miguel Sano, MIN vs. SEA ($4,600): Right-handed hitters have feasted off opposing starter Yovani Gallardo in 2017, as he has allowed eight homers in just 31.1 innings. Sano has kept a .288 ISO against same-handed pitchers, and will look to put his 45 percent flyball rate to work against the groundball tendencies of Gallardo.

Shortstop

Elvis Andrus, TEX at HOU ($4,500): Andrus has come back to earth after an early-season power surge, but still maintains a .354 wOBA and .160 ISO against righties. Joe Musgrove, who will make his first start since recovering from a shoulder injury he sustained late last month, has surrendered a .536 slugging percentage to righty hitters over 28 innings.

Outfield

Scott Schebler, CIN at SD ($3,800): Schebler has shown tremendous power against righties this season, as evidenced by his .287 ISO in 150 at-bats. Luis Perdomo has logged a massive 66 percent ground-ball rate, while Schebler has put the ball in the air more than 42 percent of the time.

Michael Conforto, NYM vs. CHC ($4,800):John Lackey owns a 2.4 HR/9 rate against lefties across 30.2 innings this year, and Conforto has notched a .300 ISO against righty pitchers. Conforto should be able to do damage against Lackey's fastball, as it has yielded a -5.4 RAA, while the 24-year-old boasts the fourth highest RAA against the heater (18.0).

Nelson Cruz, SEA at MIN ($5,100): Cruz has hit better against righties overall this season but packs plenty of power against lefties, as we can see by his .227 ISO over 44 at-bats. It is also worth noting that Cruz has tallied a 12.6 RAA against the fastball, which translates to a top-15 mark in the league.
