FantasyDraft MLB: Saturday Values

This article is part of our FantasyDraft MLB series.

PITCHER

Mike Clevinger, CLE vs. DET ($15,200): Clevinger has scored 27.10 and 25.30 fantasy points in his last two starts, respectively, and he's also scored as many as 33.35 in a start this season when he blanked the Astros over seven innings, so the upside for GPPs is there. As demonstrated by Carlos Carrasco on Friday, the Tigers are mostly inept against right-handed pitching on the road (.288 wOBA, 25.7 percent strikeout rate since June 1) and Clevinger has a 2.84 ERA, 34.0 percent strikeout rate, 11.4 K/9, .163 BAA and .275 wOBA allowed in the 12.2 innings covering his last two home starts.

Andrew Moore, SEA vs. OAK ($12,400): Moore has been impressive over his first two major league starts, scoring 18.15 and 17.0 fantasy points versus the Tigers and Royals, respectively. While those aren't necessarily offensive powerhouses, neither are the Athletics, who've struck out against right-handers on the road at a 27.8 percent rate over the last two weeks. Moore has made both of his previous starts at home as well and generated a .200 BAA, .255 wOBA allowed and only a 10.9 percent line drive rate, so he's certainly been able to keep his fair share of hitters off balance. Facing a strikeout-prone team like Oakland at home, Moore makes for a solid tournament value play.

INFIELD

Jose Ramirez, CLE vs. DET ($10,400): Ramirez has thrived against Justin Verlander over his career, compiling a .440 batting average, three doubles, two homers and five RBI over 29 plate appearances, and he has a .427 wOBA, .299 ISO and 35.9 percent hard contact rate against right-handed pitching this year. Verlander has been much more vulnerable on the road, posting a 6.22 ERA while allowing eight of his 12 homers on the season away from Comerica Park. Six of those round trippers have been at the hands of lefty bats, who've also tagged him for a .345 wOBA on the road. The Tigers' bullpen makes for an even better target, considering they have a 16.07 ERA while allowing a .490 wOBA to left-handed hitters on the road in the last month.

Rougned Odor, TEX vs. LAA ($8,000): Odor blasted another home run Friday, giving him four over his last 19 plate appearances. He has a .655 wOBA and .632 ISO over that span, and is up to a .339 wOBA, .276 ISO and 44.9 percent hard contact rate against right-handed pitching at home this season. Angels starter Jesse Chavez's splits do not bode well for him against Odor, considering he has allowed a .357 wOBA, 5.41 xFIP and 35.4 percent hard contact rate to that handedness on the road.

Martin Maldonado LAA at TEX ($6,000): Those looking for a bargain infield bat Saturday can turn to Maldonado against Tyson Ross, who has a 9.35 ERA while allowing a .329 wOBA in 19.2 innings at home. Maldonado has a .223 ISO (including six homers) versus righties on the road, and his price opens up plenty for the rest of a lineup.

OUTFIELD

Carlos Gomez, TEX vs. LAA ($9,600):Jesse Chavez has allowed a .393 wOBA, seven homers, 5.08 xFIP and 47.7 percent hard contact rate to right-handed hitters on the road, while Gomez has a .465 wOBA, .348 ISO and 41.9 percent hard contact rate against lefties at home. He's also figured out Chavez pretty well over his career, posting a .385 batting average, including three doubles and a triple, and two RBI over 15 plate appearances.

Lonnie Chisenhall, CLE vs. DET ($8,000): Tigers starter Justin Verlander's struggles were detailed earlier, while Chisenhall comes in with a .335 wOBA and .266 ISO versus right-handed pitching at Progressive Field. He's also gotten July off to a blazing start, posting a .405 wOBA, .292 ISO and season-best 42.9 percent hard contact rate over his first 30 plate appearances. To top it off, Chisenhall also has an extensive and successful history versus Verlander, as evidenced by the .341 batting average, including three doubles, a triple and three homers, and 10 RBI over 47 plate appearances.

Mitch Haniger, SEA vs. OAK ($7,200): Haniger has gone 4-for-8 with a pair of doubles and a home run over the last two games after a prolonged slump that dropped his price a few hundred dollars. That makes him an appealing tournament play against A's spot starter Chris Smith, who'll make his first career start Saturday. Haniger has a .401 wOBA and 38.6 percent hard contact rate versus righties at Safeco Field, and the Oakland bullpen, which could play a prominent part considering Smith may not last long, has a 6.00 ERA while yielding a .363 wOBA and 35.4 percent hard contact rate to righty bats on the road in the last month.

UTILITY

Justin Turner, LAD vs. KC ($8,700): Turner continues to decimate right-handed pitching, posting a .451 wOBA and 46.8 percent hard contact rate against them at home. The first-time All-Star also has a .466 wOBA and whopping 61.5 percent hard contact rate in his first 24 plate appearances this month. Meanwhile, Royals starter Ian Kennedy has actually pitched much better than his record might indicate, but Turner's hot bat is always worthy of consideration, especially at home.

Christian Yelich, MIA at SF ($7,800): Giants starter Jeff Samardzija is another tough-luck pitcher whose performances have often belied the numbers he's generated, but he has given up a .328 wOBA and 30.9 percent hard contact rate to left-handed hitters at home. Yelich has hit righties well on the road, compiling a .341 wOBA and 31.5 percent hard contact rate versus that handedness away from Marlins Park. He's also started July off hot, generating a .357 wOBA in his first 34 plate appearances.
